How is Voip.Ms

how is voip.ms is the call quallity good.

Is it reliable , if we want to make international calls do we need to use a softphone or DID number with call back is the only way in voip.ms.

I really like voipvoip.com They don't charge you for the LNP, no charge when you dial the tool free numbers, unlimited incoming (up to no limited), and when you sign up the service, I think you only need $10.00. It is 6.99/month. If you want to keep your own number, they don't charge you on that. When you call out, I use localphone.com They have the best calling rate so far. $5.00 to start your service. Therefore, I use VOIPVOIP for incoming and Localphone for outgoing through mysipswitch.com I enjoy it very much.

I now have my ata working!

I have a 2 line cordless phone so for a goof i signed up with sipgate which gives you a number and free incoming calls so i configured it to line 1 on pap2 then i signed up with voipbuster which gives you free outgoing calls then i configured that to line two of my ata with my caller id set to my sipgate phone number, now i have free incoming and free outgoing from the same phone, i just have to switch to line 2 to call out.

not as good as when it was a magicpap but it works!

I believe you can use sipswitch to accomplish this on 1 line.

I wonder if you could set up your ATA to connect to sipswitch and have it route your calls through MJ talk4Free servers?

I thought that voipbuster isn't really "free" because all calls are time limited to like one minute and after some time they don't work until you give them like 15 euros or something and they don't take paypal so you have to find some online broker that charges you even more $$.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but nothing is "free" these days, just free trials.

Ur right, i just noticed that, oh well atleast i have free incoming, my mj is running on a thin client but i cant stand it cuz its choppy, i was spoiled with mj on the ata cuz sound quality was perfect

I used to do that, but now it won't register the MJ sip info any more after their update.

I have using voipbuster for over 4 months and they offer 300 minutes free talk time a week, but for this to be working you need to pay 9.99 euros every 4 months (about $4.00 monthly). Quality is excellent.

You will log in your account first then click on help -> click on Device Setup Guides -> then select your ATA device, after that they will show you how to set up SIP on your ATA.

You have to use their UK number. Your friend's CID will display the UK number.

Just got my SPA2102 ATA and had previously registered with voip.ms. Voip.ms on the ATA works great. I made a long distance call (Canada to Canada) and the other end said it sounded really good. Rates for calls within Canada start at 1/2 cent per minute. The initial payment of $25USD doesn't expire and there are no monthly fees.

The only criticism from the person at the other end was there was a delay when they answered the phone before they could hear me. MJ does that too, wonder if that's a charatecistic of VOIP?

I tried voip.ms on Fring on my Windows Mobile phone but the call quality is variable. Sometimes really good, other times choppy and lots of times calls will drop. I haven't figured out what the variables are yet to make it work reliably.

IMO, I wouldn't rely on Fring so much for quality. For mobile (ipod Touch 2G), I have both Fring and Siphon setup with fonosip.com account. Siphon is much more flexible and call quality is much more clear. I only have Fring still on for the occasional hotspots that GOOG411 doesn't work (usually at hotspots like Starbucks/AT&T). For some reason Fring works but Siphon doesn't but Fring in general is definitely worse quality.

I've virtually retired my two MJ's now, replacing them with two SPA2102 ATA's and an account with voip.ms. The call quality with voip.ms is reliably consistent and people say it's like a landline. I've set up subaccounts on voip.ms account and have (legitimately) set up sip phones on my laptop, wife's iPod Touch and my pocket PC cell phone as well as 4 lines on the ATA's (two lines each), and x-Lite on the laptop. With x-lite and a shared hotel wifi connection, the call quality is landline-like. At the rate I'm using up the time at 1/2 cent/minute, the initial $25 will last 12 or more months.

So it's been a fun year long experience with the MJ and I've gained a ton from the knowledgeable folks on this forum--thank you. I'd say the highlights have been the experience with the thin clients, learning about the ATA's when MJ updated in June 2009, and the opportunity to decrease communication costs. I'm not sure I'm ahead yet as I've spent over $100 on ATA's, $140 on the 2 MJs, $25 on the voip.ms subscription, $500 on thin clients, $40 on a Hawkings Broadband Booster, $40 on another cordless phone, and untold tens of hours debugging and tweaking. But it's all been good.

I'll leave a MJ in my computer bag. It makes a good conversation piece and may come in handy in a pinch. Otherwise, my ATA goes in the travel kit too.

Realistically, I've spent a similar amount, but I keep telling myself "I only spent $40 on a year subscription to MJ". But the thrill of getting the ATA working and keeping it working makes up for it. Did you try the sipsorcery solution? It also was fun while that lasted (Maybe 48 hours).

The Gizmo/Google Voice is my next project. I just got my Google invite.

Hi, no, not that I recall. I read various reviews on the service and based on the positive feedback, decided to jump in and commit $25USD. The call quality is very good and it just works. They have servers in various US and Canadian cities, so pick one near you. The other positive aspect was I had a question about whether I needed to subscribe for a (DID) phone number and the person on the help-chat was knowledgeable. (No, you don't have to subscribe for an incoming phone number). I just use voip.ms for outgoing calls, incoming calls ring on the landline or cell phone.

Hi,
I'm interested in trying siphon on my windows mobile cell phone. I've searched for Siphon, but only come up with a version for iPod/iTouch and a linux version on Source Forge in a .tar file which I gather I have to compile etc (i.e., that's beyond me).

I also recall for windows mobile, I'd have to crack my phone or load someone else's ROM, which I"m not keen on doing as the phone works well for me.

Is there a version of siphon for windows mobile/pocket pc?
