More than one mj on a pc. It can and has been done!
i am new to these forums and new to the MJ. I could not accept the fact that more than one MJ could not be used on a single computer. So I managed to install vmware and create a slim down version of xp twice. Installed MJ and made DT good on both vm machines. Certain setting must be set in order for it to function correctly. If anyone is interested in the work involved, let me know. I searched a little on multiple MJ install and found nothing. If it hasnt been covered yet here I am more than happy to lay it out and admins might want to make it a sticky.
We're all connected. Now for less!
I've been wanting to look into this now that atas are down. Do simultaneous calls work? And is VM really necessary? If it can be done with VM then it should be possible to bind the specific instances of the program to their respective hardware interfaces using something like forceipbind be it separate hardware or virtual network adapters and if something is necessary for the audio interface do that as well. The other problem is getting the program to run multiple instances which I'm sure can be patched. I wouldn't have all the knowledge to do everything easily, but hopefully you or others can chime in on this.

I'd like to see a step-by-step guide if you can put it together.mush2699 wrote:i am new to these forums and new to the MJ. I do a lot of VMWare stuff...even Mac OSX on a PC under VM.
I'd like to have multiple MJs running on the same machine, so I
could have a single dedicated PC for my multiple MJs...
Please, let's see the how-to
more than one instance of magic jack
Sorry i havent replied sooner but i have been working 20 days straight and i am finally off on this holy of holy days "Father's Day."
Using vmware to run instances of operating systems such as xp just to run one program seems to be such overkill and as I mess around with it I will find a way to get more than one instance working natively.
The setup is easy using vmware first you will need a working copy of xp. Install xp in vmware and shut down all services that are unecessary after all all you wil be running is majic jack so printing, recovery, etc is not needed. Now close this vmware image and copy the folder to create another instance of itself. I would do this after you have made all the changes necessary that you want to make to the os this way you won't have to do it again. I would also make a backup of this vmware image for safe keeping and a fast restore. Keep in mind you will need a decent computer to run 2 vmware images. Currently i run 2 xp images labeled magic jack 1 and magic jack 2 and i also run centos linux vmware image at the same time. So, i am running 3 vmware images on a vista machine which is also an orb and windows media server. My specs are amd 7750 black edition and 4gb ram. I allocated 128 megs of ram to each magic jack image and that is more than enough.
Make sure when you copy the image to create the second vmware image that you go into windows properties and rename the second images computer name to something else otherwise you receive numerous conflicts. At this point start each image separately and insert one magic jack at a time. After the first image has connected to the magic jack by selecting devices--->usb---> tiger ... then startup the next image and install the next magic jack.
So far this has worked fine for me as my computer is always on and is hooked up to a UPS so it never turns off. I have not found a way to change the name of the device so that the two devices dont show up as the same name confusing the hell out of you. I havent had a need to but I am sure I will eventually. If anyone knows how to do this please direct me in the right direction Thanks
Thats it in a nutshell and not too hard at all. If you are familiar with vmware it shouldnt take very long. Good luck!

Re: more than one instance of magic jack
Actually I would *prefer* the VMware approach, so thanks for themush2699 wrote:Using vmware to run instances of operating systems such as xp just to run one program seems to be such overkill and as I mess around with it I will find a way to get more than one instance working natively.
instructions for that method. I'll also be interested in the native
approach. You never can tell when a given possibility will be more
usable.
Thanks much, for your work, Mush!
