Beep Beep!

Post by malcolmne99 »

I know there has been a lot of chat about this infernal beeping. I get complaints from every call recipient. Does anyone have any new insight into this "bug". :(

I was told to install this upgrade for the beeps. It worked for me.

Beep Beep, USB cable

Post by malcolmne99 »

I talked to support on the chat line. Here is the log:

Malcolm Needham: Hi Mara

Mara: Hi good day to you Malcolm, Mara here and I will be assisting you today.

Malcolm Needham: When I make calls the person on the other end keeps hearing a beep. I know there has been a lot of discussion about this. What is the latest on this bug?

Mara: I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. Let me assist you with that.

Mara: May I know if you are using your USB extension cord?

Malcolm Needham: Yes I am

Mara: Please try not to use your USB extension cord.

Malcolm Needham: Why? It's included with the product.

Mara: Sometimes, USB extension cord cannot boost enough power for magicJack.

Malcolm Needham: OK I'll try without it.

Malcolm Needham: Bye

Mara: Thank you for stopping by to chat, I hope I did a good job at addressing your concerns. Please take a second to answer a one question survey about the service I provided. Please click the "close" button on the top right of this screen and the survey will appear. Thanks again!

It's the softphone upgrade. Right click and save to disk.

Upgrade

Post by malcolmne99 »

Thanks Noodler. I installed it. I also put the MJ directly into the USB port. "I'll be back" with a report on the success, or failure, of these attempts.

First call looked good

Well, made first call after the upgrade link from noodler. Also MJ now plugged directly into USB port on laptop. Call was 10 minutes and no beep so we'll see...

I don't think the beeps were from the software ... I've been using my WiFi phone, (with the MJ SIP) and still heard the beeps.

if it was ONLY software/computer based, why would the beeping be heard on the self contained WiFi Phone? (see my sig below for model#)
I don't remember hearing the beeps using the dongle, just with the WiFi phone.

One GOOD thing about this upgrade, it seems to have made my connection using the dongle and Thin Client better.

Faster connections, cleaner calls, better working of the software in general, so I may just keep it on the Thin Client and not even try to get the SIP again. I think they may be using JavaScript to test for the dongle, and I can't wait for the fix, so i'm thinking of getting AXVOICE.com phone service.

They're allowing BYOD and giving your SIP info to you, and, if you do have your own ATA, they'll discount the setup charge of the service.

I can have the lines SIP info for use with my PAP2T, and use it with my WiFi phone as well.

I'm still checking out other services too, but this company looks like they're stable now, and some other "just starting" companies may not be as stable yet, even though they may be less expensive at the moment, I need my home lines to stay working.

AXVOICE also has a pay-as-you-go plan for around $5.00 a month unlimited incoming, and 1.5cents/min outgoing, so I can get one full basic unlimited for outgoing/incoming, ($15.00/month) and one pay-as-you-go, to use as just mostly incoming, and as a second line for times the first one is busy.

I need my WiFi phone working again :P

BTW-i'm posting here, now, from my ThinClient and talking on my MagicJack (using the MJ Dongle on the TC) at the same time, with NO problems now.... nice upgrade!! 8)

Since the poll is about complaints, rather than the actual beeping noise, I'll say no.

No one has complained, although I've heard them myself while talking to my wife when she was on the home (MJ) phone.
