No Sound from magic jack and can't toggle

Post by jungleem »

Hi All,,

I am not able to hear any sound for both incoming and outgoing calls in my Vista laptop with Magicjack.I also can't toggle between Handset and Speakers as one option is disabled.I am not sure why.

I have tried many options including the upgrade from Magicjack website but to no avail.Have consulted MJ online at least 10 times but they just keep moving me from one screen to another with no solution as yet.

I am desperately seeking your help.Could you guide me pl.

Thanks in advance..

Same problem here. I can go to Menu/Volume and seloect Telephone, but the "Headset/other" button is always illuminated, even after I select "Telephone" and then close. The "telephone" button will not stay as the selected choice.

This fixed mine.

Unplug MagicJack and plug it in a different USB port. Windows (Vista) saw new hardware and installed it. When I went to MENU> there was an option to "Switch to headset" and in VOLUME CONTROL I could choose telephone or headset.
PS Plugging MJ back into original USB port and MJ still does not "see" telephone. I switched MJ with mouse USB.

MJ works fine on my Vista desktop, and it provides the Telephone/headset options and accepts and keeps the telephone option. Plugging it into my TC changes things, and when I finally get it installed the Telephone/headset option appears but it won't keep the Telephone option when selected and just goes to and stays set to Headset. Something is missing with the MJ install on my TC I guess.

I mistakenly changed the USB port and it is not working now in either of the USB ports including the port on which it had started working.

But even when I was able to toggle and hear sound , the call receiver was not able to hear me.

Is not it ridiculous and totally lacks any logic..

any doctors please ??

Take a look at www.thinclientforum.com. I just got a note from him and this looks like the place to go for assistance. I spent two hours on Chat trying to just get the TC to install MJ. Total failure all the way to supervisor level.

Too those who can't toggle between headset and telephone because telephone is not installed, here's the solution:

Windows Update. Custom Install. Listed under hardware, there should be your telephone's drivers (mine was Internet Phone by Tigerjet).

Update.

Reboot.

Problem solved.

You can also try this:

Go to Device manager
Then click on the + sign next to Sounds and game controllers
Then locate the entry TigerJet or Ymax
Right click on it and click on uninstall
After that unplug your magicJack for 15 seconds and plug it into a different USB port and run upgrade..

Just an advice..

I gave up on it for the time being. It was being used on my Thin Client, where the problem was. I have switched it back to my desktop and it works fine. I'll give another try on the TC and see if I can get it to work there. Thanks.

Is there a surefire way to get this fixed? I have spent endless hours chatting with tech support and nothing worked.

The above worked for me.

Vista 32-bit Home Basic OS
I had manually deleted MJ folders and registry settings - no dice. The TigerJet device removal (with different USB port reconnect) worked.

Thanks!

Running Vista SP1; 3GB RAM

I have tried everything you all have said on here.
a. Chatted with worthless tech support for hours upon hours
b. rebooted countless times both MJ and PC
c. uninstalled, reinstalled, rapaired device drivers
d. switched phones
e. tried every USB port I have

Nothing is working. I still cannot select "Telephone" from the "Volume/Headset Control" window. I can hear a dialtone on the handset, but if I dial a number, the dialtone does not stop. I even bought an extra year of service when i purchased this device and now it's worthless to me unless i can get it working properly.

Any other ideas?

Here's a related edited post from another thread:

I may have finally solved my magicjack problems. I don't know if the Norton, the latest upgrade, my old phone, or the short mj USB cord were the problem, but the mj seems to be working fine now. I suspect it was a combination of corrupted mj files and a bad USB extension.

Here are the problems I had; only unplugging the mj or phone and restarting fixed it:
-Continuous dial tone
-Cannot toggle between telephone and headset in Menu-Volume Control
-mj process randomly stopping
-Calls cut off

After five tech chats, including finally removing the mj USB extension (and plugging directly into the back of the computer, as others recommend here), one or more of the following seems too have fixed the problems:
-Bought a new telephone
-Re-installed the upgrade
-Uninstalled the mj using the mjremover and two other programs, reinstalled. Before this reinstall I had v.2.0.3.5, but after this reinstall I had the same version but the on-screen dial pad was half-again or so bigger.
-Tried a different USB port. Initially removed the short USB cord without success
-I then got bumped up to 'the top 10%' support team
-Un-installed every mj listing in device manager (disk drive, CD/DVD, Sound, video controllers); then under disk drives scanned for hardware changes. This seemed to fix the telephone/headset toggle problem
-Ran the mj Recovery Tool
-Removed the mj USB extension

Good luck!

Can't change to phone

Post by Mikecarol »

If you can't change to phone, the button is there but you can't select it? The drivers for the magic jack device are not correctly installed into the operating system. XP will not reinstall them--it thinks they are just fine and even if you have the new ones, it says it has them, but it doesn't-- until you delete the magic jack file that is buried in the application data folder. Then you restart the thin client and it reinstalls magic jack and you get a box asking if you want to install your new device. Then you need to have the drivers ready. It might now work--Unless you have a virtual memory problem like I do, the drivers never get installed completely so I keep starting over. Reimage the thin client next!

I registered just to say thank you, usually I never bother registering to say thanks. I was getting frustrated the last couple weeks with magic jack but this fixed the problem and MJ is now back on my good side, plus I feel bad because this is truly a great service and a great way to stick it to the monopolizing phone companies in Canada. Screw them, amirite?

In retrospect, I think it stopped working (had dial tone, could not hear them, they could hear me) when I switched USB ports.

Thank you for the internet. This worked for me after spending over an hour with mj tech support.
