OH MY God, I can't take the beeps anymore!

Post by mediagirly »

When I first started MJ, it was cool.. that was about six weeks ago. Now, every other syllable is a beep! Is there any way on earth to get rid of the beeps. I've spent hours on chat trying to upgrade... This is bad business.

Have you tried the 6/19 fix? It has reduced the beep noise for us; for others it has fixed the beep noise completely.

I upgraded before I posted my comment

Post by mediagirly »

I have upgraded several times, I've practically pulled my hair out by the roots, switched computers, took my computer off ethernet, went through all of the motions that the chat person suggested and it does not work. Does anyone have any ideas? Why is it for the first month, before six weeks ago when I first got the magic jack, there were no beeps? What happened?

That's because on June 9th they did a LUCKY YOU "update" which wrecked havoc on MANY MJ users. We all started to generate the beep to whom we were speaking too. Prior to that nary a problem. Then BAM, POW, ZAP...
Sorry the June 19th patch didnt work for you ( thankfully it did for me and many others). All I can suggest is to keep your speaker and mic volume about 1/3 of the way up in the Volume/Headset Control section. You may also want to try holding your phone ( the mic section) away from your mouth a tad. It seems to help some people.

Beeps stopped...? cross fingers XXXX

Post by mediagirly »

Hi guys,

I think I might have found a way to stop the beeps...?? cross fingers xxxxx

I turned the Volume/Headset Control all the way down to zero. I put a DSL filter from the actual phone to the cord. So far, I didn't have a single beep through a half hour conversation. It was like a miracle! I hope this helps somebody because I was losing it earlier. Thanks much... :) Dee

MANY have tried, including myself, the DSL filter to no avail. Chances are lowering your mic volume played more of a role in it than the filter. I have my mic volume and speaker volume 1/3 the way up and now when I talk into the phone I keep my mouth a tad away from the mic on the phone.. That plus the 6/19 update did it for me, no beeps.

Well I installed a DSL filter, removed the USB extension cord from the MagicJack and plugged it directly into my PC. I also installed the upgrade. The beeps are now gone. I'll let you all know if they return[/quote]

Try to undo some of the stuff you did till you get them back, This way you know what caused it.
I am positive you can remove the DSL filter with no ill effect.
Out of all of the things you did the June 19th upgrade probably fixed it for you.
I have heard of the extension causing all kinds of problems, but beeps not being one of them. You are always better off plugging any USB device directly into the PC sans extension cord. In fact plugging it into the back USB posrts are even better as they are directly connected to the MotherBoard..

GOOD JOB!!

Beeps sometimes

Post by AndrewNJ »

I bought two MJs and installed on two different computers. 1 using windows xp and the other using vista. The XP computer works with no beeps even after switching units back and forth. Both units experienced beeps on the vista computer. I'm not sure what this means, but I'm trying to figure out the difference.
We too spent quite a lot of time in customer service chats. After the last reformat and upgrade install, the beeps are less frequent on the vista computer, but they are still often enough to be annoying. The xp computer is still ok.
Has anyone else had problems with vista verses xp?

I noticed that MJ generally works better on computers with XP than with Vista, but unfortunately, everything works better with XP.
