Help??? More Video Memory on the TC????

I have finished the installation of the TC5700 in the car running the MJ software, GPS software, OBD-II software, and Audio software. The FM transmitter from the TC5700 to the FM radio is working perfectly and I have one button tuned to 106.7 which is where the transmitter is tuned.

BUT...I have one minor problem. The GPS software works perfectly except the 3D view. I get a message that it has run out of Video Memory when it trys to build the display.

Has anyone ever tried to increase the video mempry? Where is it? Can it be done virtually under Win XP by using some of my 10 GB HD as video memory????

You can a video card using the PCI slot. You'll have to buy an expansion kit which includes a riser card and a new cover that has room for the card. I added a 64 mb card to my 5700.

I can't remember off the top of my head if these share system memory or have dedicated video memory. If they share, you should be able to find a setting in the BIOS to change the shared allocation.

If not, you would have to get the expansion bay with the extra PCI slot and put in a PCI video card with more RAM.

Any suggestions where to look for an expansion slot? I just searched EBay and found nothing.

I looked for Expansion Slot T5700 and I guess thats why i didnt find anything.

But I notice that the specs say its for the "T5700" Series but fail to mention the T5700 itself in the list below, starting with T5710. Does this mean anything?

Looking at the device it says it has 16mb of memory and nothing is said in the device or driver about increasing the memory virtually. But I need a minimum of 64 MB so its a long way from that.

The video is shared. If you want to increase it, you'll have to add in a PCI card.

Are PCI and PCIe the same thing??? Which is the slot on the expansion Slot?

PCI and PCIe are different slots and the expansion bay is PCI.

Ok, then the NVS280 and the NV280 must be different animals because the NVS280 appears to have a PCIe slot from the ones I have looked at on EBAY. Thanks for the heads up.

The NVS280 comes in both flavors. That's the one I use and it works well.
1600 x 1200 with up to 150 Hertz refresh rate although my monitor tops out at 100 Hertz.

I just bought an expansion slot for my 5720. It cost me $40 on ebay, so the link from stroths for $29 is a good deal.

I found this PDF doc online for the 5720 where it lists compatible video cards which I think works for the other 5700/5710 thin clients: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quic ... 388_na.PDF

Based on this doc you should get the following video card (make sure you get the DY599A model):
HP DY599A Nvidia Quadro4 280 NVS 64MB PCI Graphics Card

I just bought a used DY599A from Amazon for $54 that included a DMS-59 splitter adapter for two VGA outputs.

There's another DY599A available if you're interested. I don't have the link handy but just do a search on DY599A and it will show up.
