Dying Magicjack or new computer install to blame?

Post by lonewolf »

My magicjack isnt working on my computer! Reformated and reinstalled the OS (windows vista ultimate 32bit). Works like expected on windows xp computer. Acts like there is no software on vista machine. Could something with the reinstall of windows have hosed the magicjack? here is the transcript of todays five hours worth of chat.

Can anyone here (the real gurus) think of anything else to try?

Thanks in advance. Jared

Sheri: Please wait while I check that for you

jared: thank you

Sheri: Would you like me to review your previous chats to assist you, or you rather choose be forwarded to a higher level tech?

jared: I need the phone for business

Prince: Yes sir, i can transfer your old magicjack phone number and extra years to your new MJ

stupid question, but are you using the USB ports in the front or the back of the computer? My MJ wouldn't work on the ports in the front, had to use the dongle and hook it to one in the back.. seems it wasn't getting enough power for the MJ.

@dirtygermankid: only the ports in the back. the dongle wont fit in the front ports without using the cable.

Update: suspecting something went bad in the install as the mj works on our old toshiba protoge windows xp laptop, I reinstalled windows vista fresh tonight.

Alas no luck. get a mj and mjcdrom drive in explorer, after system loads new hardware, but drives are still empty and wrong icons.

Tomorow going to try a pci-e usb card in hopes that there is not enough power comming from motherboard.
