Yeah I saw this, this afternoon. MJ stopped working on my vista computer due to the upgrade, it kept saying that MJ wasn't plugged into the USB port. I finally gave up and plugged it into my old windows XP laptop and noticed that change.
They apparently must have rolled back the upgrade, or stopped pushing it (that's my guess because I just tried to install MJ back on my Vista box again and this time it installed without the update and didn't prompt me for the upgrade) so it's finally working again for me. They can keep the upgrade if it's going to knock my MJ phone service out for all I care.

I think they must have stopped it as I posted on another thread talking about upgrade I am unable to get the upgrade. either by a like that was posted on thread or by their web page.
Vista 64bit here, also running from a powered hub (was put on the hub to try to make faxing more reliable as that was a suggested method almost a year ago when I got it).
Anyway, it's working like it should now (minus any upgrade which is fine by me).
Well, thanks to this upgrade, I now get an even MORE amplified echo whenever I make a local call to the same area code. I don't experience this on calls to other area codes, just this one (208). And since I no longer have the ability to change my proxy from SaltLake to something a little closer (Like Seattle or Portland), my overall call quality has dropped even more.
Yes, I know there is a section on how to reduce echo. I have the volume and the microphone turned almost to "off" on the softphone software. No change. I even tried the old echo cancellation utility and again no change.
First they take away the ability to use an ATA - which worked great with high quality, now they introduce even more call quality issues. It's really too bad.
I have two MJ's. Each one is plugged into a separate high-end computer through a wired LAN connection. I used to only experience mild echo on one of the MJ's (a newer model MJ), my other MJ was an older model and worked flawlessly. Each MJ now experiences the same behavior.
Enough griping, I would certainly welcome any assistance to help kill off this terrible echo. I find the customer support on this rather silly since no matter what the issue you call about the answer is always: "Run the Update utility".
No diagnosis from a server perspective as to exactly WHY an echo occurs and WHY it would only be for a local area code call. I have a pretty wide open bandwidth pipe upstream and down.
Hopefully this is enough information for some of the more MJ experts of this forum to assist. At least I know that you experts are actually trying to help and no more words than "Please unplug your MJ, plug back it, run the update...." It would seem to me that Dan could save himself some money and just have an answering machine playing the same recording...

I wish I had a wireless broadband card to try it out lol.
Second update in 2 days... this one is Dated 8/1/2009 Version 1.80.499.2 Hope this one works better that yesterdays...
On the Wyse Winterm 9450, Win XPe SP2 ....
Performance same as B/4 (very, very good). Will place a call to myself after everyone gets up; this to test the registry modifications enabling the home answering machine. (late night block party last night)
BooHoo... Downloaded the Upgrade and ran it. Started with the green Lucky You... then "ERROR Broken Storage" in red... How did I break the Storage? .....then it calls up the MJ Customer Care page... like it wants me to call live help.... what an ordeal THAT is going to be. Anybody else get this? VistaHome SP1 on new Toshi LP L355.
UPDATE to Last Post.... Ah, just talked to Jazz, then the supervisor April. I have a permanent Error 401 on my XP machine that LiveLook couldn't even resolve and during his playing around, erased all of my Contact List and Calls List. I was outraged as a couple of the numbers didn't have back ups. He PROMISED to have the tekkies given the word that when there is a risk of losing the Contact List, the customer will be told just how to back up the List (Vista: go to the Phone removeable drive, find the XML phone number list and copy it to another disk or drive) but that has NOT been done. April said that it is not on their web site instructions or .pdf's because they prefer that the customer chat with them and only at that time will the customer be told about backing up the Contact List. What an excuse, huh? Well, with MJ it must be every man for himself. That is why I pour over this list so that I can find out things that MJ doesn't want to bother to tell us.
So now I have Normal and AirCard but no Contacts... wondering if the unavoidable upgrade was worth it as I had about 75 numbers on my List. Now to see if the XP machine will forget about the permanent (6 months now) Error 401 that MJ tekkies can't resolve. Thanks, guys, for all the good info. No thanks to MJ for their sloppy tekkies.
It's for adjusting the bandwidth. There should be a "Public Convention" setting that squeezes the bandwidth smaller.
I also got a nasty surprise with it. It cut off any use under Sandboxie. Due to the upgrade, it won't run under Sandboxie. It now requires access to the Internet Explorer history and directly. I can't stop it from filling up my browser's cache.
However, I still have the Internet Explorer under a sandbox.
I wonder if the other online services will catch on which would force me to use Zango and SmileyCentral outside of Sandboxie. That would be a big mess.

Why can't you change your proxy? I used to have this problem but it went away when I changed my proxy. I simply create a route to the NYC proxy to my printer. MJ eventually figures out its not able to communicate and picks a different proxy. No more echo.

My PAP2T was. It wouldn't receive calls. I unplugged it, then plugged in the MJ, let it upgrade. Unplugged the MJ, plugged in the PAP2T and it was fixed.
