how do i use software fax with magicjack ?

how do i do it, please? i fax docs directly from a directory by using an installed fax software...i do not use an external machine... how do i interface my fax software dialer with the magicjack?? also, if you could answer a similar question.. how do you dial the magicjack using the microsoft dialer?? the ms dialer is the screen you use to dial out on a modem... the people at magicjack are no help, in fact, say it cant be done but they say that bec they dont want to support that function, they just dont want to be bothered.....can you help me please? thanks, cam2370<at>hotmail.com

thank, hsweiss, but that is NOT the solution to my question.....the purpose of my question is to interface a software dialer, either fax or microsoft, to the magicjack input......there is a software technician out there who has done this and can provide the answer. the magicjack input represents a computer port.......the input of that port can be directed to the output of a software touchtone source.

Interesting. I've not tried it with MJ yet. I did try to fax with my Vonage and it did not work.

You say it dials too fast. As I recall, when dialing, does a comma not add a pause? could you not dial say (1,2,3,-1,2,3,-4,5,6,7)?

Just wondering. Might try it next time I fax something but if anybody know, please post.

I faxed 13 pages with the MJ the other day! I had to slow the speed of my software from 33.000 to 4800 baud and disable error correction. It worked like a charm !

if you make a direct Audio connection between the magicjack and the sound output/input of your computer (earpiece of magicjack, to mic in of sound card, then mic in of magicjack, to Speaker out of sound card) you could have what was called accustic connection, in the OLD days before direct RJ-11 to RJ-11 was allowed by the phone companies, this was the only way to use an old style modem, but, in your case you won't be using the actual modem, but the accustic connection is basically the same.

If you don't even want to use a phone, you'll still have to make some type of interface to the magicjacks RJ-11 jack so mic and spkr out/in can be sent to the computers sound card. ... using a 600 ohm center-tapped matching transformer (each side = 600 ohm too, not just one side) to wire it up so the signals can be split, with caps and maybe a resistor, to simulate a load.. thing is, if you want to receive the fax, the 90 to 110 volts coming in when the phone rings, could zap your sound card, and/or your computer, that's why, it's best to take apart an old phone to just get the mic and spkr sections to go to your sound cards in/outputs.

Then, you'll have to set your computers fax or dialer software to not wait for dialtone or think a phone is there, unless you actually use a phone, so you can just pick it up and have the computer dial when you hear the dial tone.

and WAS the way it used to be done with some 300 baud old type modems....yeah... i know,... no modems..., but the connection idea is still the same.

The main problem using software to software, is, the FAX software is expecting the MODEM to create the T.38 codec, and the software is just controlling everything, not making the codec.

ok, you win the prize....i think you are right...whatever i connect to has to have an ack back.....the closest i will get to this is a software modem that will send the analog ack...i will give up the point, but i still think there is a software way for mj to recognize the dtmf generated by the ms dialer, even if the call doesnt connect .....

You are correct about the dialer working with the Magicjack recognizing the DTMF, you don't need a modem for that .

But if you wanted to connect the computer's sound card directly to the Magicjack's RJ-11 phone jack, you still need either the matching transformer (600/600 ohm- center-tap on both sides) to make that isolation interface, or use an old phone to use it's mic and speaker's lines to connect to the computer's sound cards in/out , or you could damage the computer and/or sound card from grounding issues or just the ring voltage itself.

did you want to make a software to software (computer to magicjack software) to work the dialer too? ... not using the magicjack dongle input?

that would take some really good programming skills

I've fiddled with the fax card settings (Win XP) by navigating settings/control panel/system/hardware/device manager/modem to show the properties of soft92 voice modem with Smart CP. Under modem tab I REDUCED the speed to 4800. Under Advance tab I have one init string ATS7=70. Under default preferences I disabled compresson. I'm able to dial out and hear the fax acknowledgment (by monitoring sounds over a phone). But that's as far as it goes before it gets timed out. Getting message "no response". Anything else I should do? If I should modify the string, what is the new COMPLETE string? Thanks
