Calls interrupt typing

In my office I have Magic Jack. It is plugged in where I have a direct Internet connection coming from my router. When I get on the phone in another office, it stops my secretary from typing. Thanks to this list, I got the thing that keeps the Magic Jack window from popping up and interrupting her, but still the typing problem remains. Any suggestions about what to do?

I am thinking about getting another computer with Windows XP and using it solely for the Magic Jack. If I do so, will I still have the same problem due to the fact that I am still coming out of the same router?

I've read alot of things on this forum myself as i've just gotten magic jack recently. From what i've read though the best way to avoid this problem is as you said to either get another xp pc to solely run magic jack or to go with a thin client. I'm using my old pc that's running xp for my magic jack and it's running fine.

You've not told us the nature of the beast - that is what vintage computer you are running the MJ on. Is this a 500 MHZ Pentium III, a 1.4 GHz P4, a dual-core? How much RAM? Etc.

Personally speaking, I'm running MJ on a 1.4 GHz laptop and on a 1.1 GHz Celeron desktop (which is the primary machine). In a MJ call, my cpu usage never goes much more than 30-35% so there is plenty of CPU left for web surfing, typing in Word, etc. And working on the computer never seems to affect the quality of the phone call.

Bottom line, if you're running on an old, underpowered box (e.g., one that barely meets the req for XP) you'll have a problem. If its a "modern" box you should not see this behavior - if anything I would expect that the phone conversation would be adversely affected before typing would. Check to make sure that something else isn't eating up your machine such as a virus, malware, etc.

There will always be people like you, no the problem for him is that he should probably have a dedicated machine or a thin client to run magic jack if he's using magic jack as a dedicated line.

Most old computers with a built in USB ports can be upgraded to XP and run a MJ just fine,HP makes a line of small machines including the thin clients that are so popular around here.
