Magic Jack will not dial number

Post by erniejenson »

I am running Magic Jack on a XP computer with broadband cable (roadrunner.com). Magic Jack worked for six month. I can enter the number, including area code, on the computer or from the telephone. When I click on send, I get an error code 3 or 9 saying that I cannot connect to the provider and it may be temporarly down. I can click on menu and help and go directly to the Magic Jack web site. The only thing that might have caused the problem is that I removed Norton and downloaded the virus protection that is provided by Roadrunner (Time Warner). Magic Jack will run on my wife's computer running Vista. Any help would be appreciated.

Dumb question did you UNINSTALL the last thing you did? I.E. The Roadrunner virus protection.. I would start by trying to undo anything your did just before it stopped working.
I use AVG anti virus and Comodo firewall and have had zero problems connecting in over a yr..

Magic Jack will not dial number

I have not removed the virus protection yet. I have been going through all the newwork connection stuff first. It will run fine on my wife's computer running Vista with the same virus protection. I am going to try that next. I will post my sucess if I have any. Thanks for the idea, that was my thinking also. The funny thing is that it will do everything but dial. I have no problem contacting the web site from Magic Jack. I think it must be some security software that's got some little square checked and now it wont let Magic Jack do it's thing.

Hi Guys,

Error-3 , In this case, Check your system clock first . If this is correct , then please open UDP port 5060 and UDP port 5070 on your router. This arises only when your router is blocking your magicjack to connect with magicjack servers. After opening ports , restart your magicjack . To restart click on Menu of dial pad select Advanced User and click on Restart.

Error-9 , Check the system clock . In this case your firewall is blocking your magicjack to connect with server. First try to run the upgrade from the given link

http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe

If it does not resolve your issue , then configure magicjack setting through firewall.

You can check the following link for firewall:

http://www.magicjack.com/9/firewall.asp

You should try the following steps :
1. Click Start tab and open your control panel...
2. Go to internet options..
3. under privacy tab.. slide bar down to "allow all cookies"
4. under security tab click on "trusted sites" then click the "sites" button..
5. type the following address into the text box..
6. https://reg.talk4free.com click the "add" button..
7. type in the following address.. https://my.magicjack.com and click "add".
8. Uncheck the box at bottom left of window that says "require server verification..." click "ok"
9. then click "Ok" close the internet options.
10. unplug the magic jack and plug it back into a different usb port.

Then your magicjack will work again .

Sometime if you do not have any external firewall ,then configure your window built in firewall.

Magic Jack will not dial number

Thanks for the help. I was able to find the problem in my newly downloaded CA virus protection software where the new fire wall was blocking Magic Jack.
The first idea was to check my system clock. I don't know how to do that and my computer friends didn't either. I don't think the system clock has anything to do with the regular clock that I can check so I was a little lost on that idea. Everything is now up and working so thanks for alll the help.

You can locate your system clock (PC clock ) on the right bottom of system tray. If your system date and time will incorrect then your magicjack will not communicate with maicjack servers and you will get messages like "Please connect to Internet ", "Servers are temporarily down ", Error-9, Error 3 . etc,

You can try yourself . Just change your system date & time to incorrect and restart your magicjack . :)
Happy to help you !
