How to get a MJ that works without MJMD5?

Post by FrankPepe »

Hello all,
Has anyone figured out how some of the old accounts are still working without MD5?
If i get an old dongle that was never registered (like a year old) will that one work without MD5 if i register it today?
Or do i need to buy one of those old accounts that still works without MD5 from someone who already pulled their credentials last year and the just change the number?
If I take one of those old ones that still works and updeate the dongle , will the sip credentials then require MD5?

Please advise. I'm just trying to understand how to get an MJ that works without MD5

Thanks,
Frank

FrankPepe, If you want to use MJ, I don't see any option other than using MJ with MD5 on PC or on your router with DDWRT with MD5, OpenWRT with MD5 ....

if you are worried about keeping your PC turned on 24/7 then you can try netTalk (TK6000) https://www.tk6000.com and forget about all the hassle with MJ.

I think you got it backwards - old accounts need MJMD5, new accounts/dongles from April/May 09 onwards don't but MJ police may change that anytime they want via a forced upgrade.

Hi,
thanks for this input.
I dont know what I have backwards but I do know this much.

My old MJ from February still works fine in my RTP300 without MJMD5. But that dongle hasn't seen the light of day since February.
The new MJ i just registered (i have no idea how old it is i bought it on ebay) doesn't work.

So again I ask........

Why?

You are considered lucky for the time being. The noonce change from the April 09 upgrade (distributed in early June) effectively killed ATA's & mobiles from prior. Only newer dongles are immune to the noonce effects which is exploited by MJMD5 proxy.

I am still confused.

How can you distinguish between an old and new dongle? and what has changed in the new dongle that makes it "immune"?

Is all we have circumstantial evidence?

I do appreciate you trying to answer my questions but I dont see how "luck" can possibly be involved.

Does anyone else have a working MJ from prior to april?

synchron,

I am getting conflicting reports about MJ's that need MJMD5. I have a newer MagicJack that I just got two weeks ago. How would I set it up without a MJMD5 proxy? I tried password finder and Stroths on my MJ but none of them seems to work.

Could you give me a link on how to do this without MJMD5 on a newer MJ?

You have to get the SIP credentials from your MJ. You do this the same way regardless of weather or not your MJ needs MJMD5. Stroths didnt work for me the last time around. I got my password using Password Finder V2.2 found here

http://magicjackhacks.com/

Although i cant report on wether or not it worked because i dont have MJMD5 running to verify

I could run it on my old MJ to verify. But I cant for fear that plugging in that old dongle will update it to also require the MJMD5. i wont risk that.

Unlike other upgrades, I believe the one from early June actually forced you to answer some questions during the process right before the normal "Lucky you" stuff. There's probably nothing different about the old vs new dongle. I think if you answered the questions (which you had to do anyway), this is what marked you for the extra authenticity that ATA's and mobiles don't have since its beyond the standard Sip credentials.

So I think you're right in assuming that if you've never gotten the April upgrade, chances are, you'll be flagged once you plug it in. And its only a matter of time before a future upgrade will effectively render all ATA's/mobiles useless forcing everyone to go the MJMD5 route. And then they'll plug that, and then someone will hopefully figure out how to exploit the next plug, etc. etc.

Classic cat & mouse game.
