MagicJack on Itouch2G(Pictures)

Post by theunleet »

I visit the forum from time to time but I figured I would register and provide pictures for people who need them. I successfully(as of 9/10/09) grabbed my SIP credentials and are able to use it via an Apple Ipod Touch 2nd Generation. Pictures and a video are shown below. I used the "iPico" app from the Apple Store.

make sure you use the password finder v2.2 to pull your magicjack username and password. and the address and proxy need to be for your area. i will list them when i get home to help you. also i was able to make a call and send audio but my internet was running slow and i got no audio from the phone i called. however in one test i heard my friend at his house but it was low(slow internet). on another note i tried this with "iSIP" but i always get a timeout error. it works with "iPico" for sure. will also test on better internet.

I do have the pw from password finder. I have mj set up on x-lite and I wonder if this interferes with using IPICO?

i have never used a softphone for pc, but i would assume if you quit x-lite(disconnects from magicjack) and then start up IPICO and set it up, it should work. I tried iSip but all i get is a timeout error even though the settings are almost identical to those of IPICO. i will take a video with sound demonstrating how to retrieve your username and password and set it up with IPICO.

It also works with Fring exactly the same way, you would need to run stroths for your credentials first. Park outside any Public Library and call every where in the US for free ...:))

i'm surprised this works. i have a PAP2, but i had to setup a mjproxy (MJMD5). why is ipico an exception to this rule? why don't you need a proxy for this since magicjack changed the way they authenticate?

Hi, would someone please kindly share with

me more details on where to download, what to

run, step by step, where to find the

Password, etc.

I have MagicJack, it was working fine

before Jun-09, afterward, It no longer work

- I try most of softphone that used to work

but no luck.

I don't know maybe after few upgrade or MJ

has automatically changed the password.

I downloaded

http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/stroths-mj-

utilities-1-6-sip-info-more-8-2-update-

t4230.html (Stroths MagicJack Utilities

Suite v1.6)

I ran that sipdump and open sipdump.txt, search for ProxyUserName, ProxyUserPassword, but no luck finding any password.

Thanks.

So frustrating.

I have put in the exact settings as I can determine, as in the photos, except for LA area and my dumped ID and password, both in Ipico and Isip, and neither will work.

I had heard that older MJ's/MJ info may not work for the hack.

or I am wondering if my router is causing issues, however the MJ gets out fine when it is plugged in.

I finally found out the password, and noticed the password is same as the one I previously have, so the MJ did not change the password, they just change the method of authentication (to similar EAP-MD5), therefore, NO any softphone such has x-lite, and included Siphon or Ipico, fring on Iphone would work. With other help, I have finally got it work with X-Lite but need to have a PC on 24/7 with MJMD5.exe running. The X-lite will have to point to this PC as Proxy server. IF YOU try above settings (as in pictures) you will get only Frustrated and totally Waste of your time. [Thanks her for sharing and happy for her particular and special case that works for her]

sorry for not replying in a promptly manner, I dont see how it does not work, unless you are trying to setup your VOIP client on the 3G network. AT&T ordered Apple to make VOIP only WIFI and Apple specifically ordered App developers to make sure their VOIP applications would only run using Wifi. Now if you have Cydia installed you can look for an app called "3G Unrestrictor" or "VOIPover3G" which tricks a certain application into thinking they are running on an WIFI connection.

I just went out and bought an Iphone 3G for $100(8gb) and installed iPico. I am going to see if I can trick the application into using the 3G connection instead of Wifi.

*On a side note, the appliction "3G Unrestrictor" is $2 and is the newer version of "VoIPover3G" with more features and you can select applications to use.*

Limitations of VoIPover3G:
~It is configured to only trick Fring and Skype in the default configuration.
~You cannot add new apps easily - You have to edit config files, which is too complicated for most users.
~It doesnt work with the AppStore and iTunes Store - You wont be able to download applications and podcasts bigger than 10MB.
~It doesnt work with YouTube, you wont be able to watch videos in the same high quality as on WiFi

3G Unrestrictor on the other hand offers you:
~An easy to use configuration app - Add whatever apps you want and unrestrict them from their chains!
~Works with the AppStore and iTunes Store
~Works with YouTube and lets you watch movies in high quality

Aside that info, all the info I posted is all you need.... I recently got my magicjack from work(the dongle, long story i bought it from their website, paid for service, ended up returning due to unforseen circumstances and they didnt cancel the phone service i guess) and then i saw we had it at work and bought it, but the number is about a year old.
