more than one MJ on same network

Post by lem »

Hello,

Been reading the forums for a few days and the posts are very helpful.

I have one MJ connected presently and after a little tweaking, it's working flawlessly. Very good call quailty and no dropped calls. Great value for the money.

My question: is it possible to have more than one Magic Jack on the same network (on different PC's)? Got a couple teenagers and would like each to have their own number and phone.

My current setup:

DSL modem -> linksys wrt610n router -> 2 network wired PC's and two wireles PC's. The current MJ is connected to one of the wireless PC's. Can I add another MJ to one of the other PC's? Or will each try to open the same ports. Bandwidth wise, I should be ok with the 7MBS down and 1MBS up.

Thanks for reading and any thoughts appreciated before I invest in another MJ.

If your router has QOS capabilities that would be your best bet. If it does not you can look in a hawkings broadband booster. Take a look at the MJ wiki http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack it has a good write up on MJ and QOS.

Having MJs on separate computers on your network will work just fine. Its really no different than you and I both having MJs on the Internet. You have plenty of bandwidth. The ports are shared but unique because they are from different IP addresses.
