Do you mean that you're still using the old User Agent 466c, or the new one 484a which the config file hasn't been updated to yet?

I'm using the new and updated User Agent: MagicJack/1.80.484a (SJ Labs) Another note, I'm actually using the SPA-2100 so I'm not using the config file uploaded here.

I just tested the PAP2T with the new settings and it works for both outgoing and incoming. My circumstances are unusual - I had done a clean install of Windows just before the upgrade, so the first time I plugged in the dongle, it did the upgrade in a clean environment. I got the SIP info which turned out to be the same as before the upgrade, and made the above edits to my config file and applied it before letting the PAP2T register. I also make extremely limited use of MJ - most of my calls use Dukadial to avoid worrying about the TOS, and the MJ is for unusual/emergency situations. I wouldn't expect incoming calls to be deliberately blocked, since Dan makes money off those. Maybe the restrictions are being applied selectively to people who use a lot of outgoing minutes?

Very strange. I've gone through these configs for a while, I'm not seeing any differences. Can't imagine why a pap2t would work, and a SPA-2100 wouldn't. I must be missing something stupid. But, I'm still reading quite a bit of people with the no outgoing issue.

Other people with PAP2Ts have had call problems. But I don't know if any of them are using this thread's config file (with my suggested changes) since none of them have posted here yet. If different people using the same model ATA and Spaconf compared their config files, that might help. It could also be that there is no difference and that MJ just applies the restrictions selectively to heavy users.

My PAP2T isn't registering any more. I had to recreate the dongleless setup on one of my machines, it required my MJ username and password. The first time after that I tried, the ATA didn't work. I don't know if that's the cause, but at least we know it's not selective for heavy users now. My SIP info is the same as before so it's not that either. Both the dongle and all dongleless setups continue to work normally.

It's not a big deal since I can continue to use Dukadial as before, and if necessary eventually sign up with another cheap SIP service such as Future Nine.

I've just went in and configured everything but it's telling me Can't connect to login server on the Summary page? Does anyone know what I might have missed?

Hit Start and run and type cmd into the dos prompt, then hit ipconfig /all

the ip has to be on the money of the computer your have mjmd5 on and make sure your password is correct on both your ata and the computer running mjmd5 also the port has to be at the end of the ip
say 192.16.0.1:5070 for the proxy address this is what tripped me up but I have 4 lines now going on 2 pap2!!!!

Dial your number and as soon as the message starts up, hit the asterisk key, then enter your password.

PAP2 not working with MJ

Post by joefly »

HI guys, I have PAP2 firmware 3.1.15 and MJ just bought an updated. I have tried all the configuration listed and I keep getting "Can't connect to login server"

Just want to confirm that the listed setup is still working for people as I have read that MJ is blocking such setup. Please confirm to get this to work I do not need to config my router or need any PC to overide the dongle.

And if it does work, what specif settings should I be focusing on to change to overcome this error of not connecting to the login server.

Thanks

You need to install and run MJMD5 proxy on your router to have the PAP2 work. There is a thread for that in this forum. In short you would need to flash the router with dd-wrt or open-wrt and then install the mjproxy in there. then in the PAP2 point to this router instead of proxy01.yourtown.talk4free.com.
Good luck :))

Or, if your router doesn't support the option above, you can run mjmd5 on your PC; that is the way I have it setup.

And, I finally have caller ID with call waiting that works!!!

Stav. Thanks for your help. I am new to hacking my router, so I have a couple questions. My router is Linksys WRT54G V2 firmware V4.21.1. Which version of DD-wrt or open-wrt should I be using. I read a post where it confused me about which version to use since it may render the wireless non-functional. And my concern is if something goes wrong with my hacking, How can I restore the router to state prior to hacking. Do I simply reflash with the mfr's latest firmware again?

Thanks for your help.

Go in the dd-wrt site and choose your model number, in the case of 54g v2.0 you would see the recommended build. Into there choose the mini, it contains all you need to run MJMD5. There should also be a tutorial on how to flash the router, I found mine here http://www.scorpiontek.com/portal/ look for an article written by shawn. In there you will also find the route back to the linksys firmware.
You are right in saying that there is always a risk to brick you router. It happened to me one time and to other people much more knowledgeable than myself. But hey, no guts no glory ...:))

I have a Linksys PAP2T which was discontinued from iConnect because of getting MJ services now. Do I still need to flask my U.S. Robotics wireless MAXg Router and then install mjproxy in it?

You need to find out if your wireless router is supported by DD-Wrt. Not sure where to find this info now, been out of this forum for couple of months. Go browse this forum and you will find out by yourself I'm sure. If not supported by ddwrt, then you probably need a compatible router like the linksys v1 to 4.

Just for your info. my PAP2T w/MJ works just fine on a D-Link DIR 300 router and on a Linksys BEFSR41 router without installing MJMD5 or DD WRT. I don't say that it will work on any other, but so for I have had no problems with these 2 routers (actually 3 because I have used 2 different DIR 300's) at 2 different locations/networks.

Getting a D-Link DIR 650 next week, will post if I have any problems.

Are you using mjmd5 proxy fix?

Have you tried with a simple softphone like express talk from NCH?

make sure your sip credentials are valid and work using softphone. If not, implement mjmd5 in windows. Make sure your sip details work with softphone before trying the more complex pap2 implementation.

Based on the vintage of your mj hardware you may/may not need mjmd5.

Good luck

I downloaded and installed express talk. I tried using this proxy proxy01.detroit.talk4free.com:5070 but it kept giving me the result below:

here is what i got when i tried to register with the above proxy:

1- Register authorization failed for
sip: [email protected]:5070

2- Error returned: 401 unauthorized

3- check username or password for the proxy server

Then I changed the proxy from proxy01.detroit.talk4free.com:5070 to 192.168.1.1:5070 and it worked.

I made a test call incoming/outgoing are working just fine using express talk.

but only incoming calls are working on my ATA work. please help.

@Moe_Ale

Use the following settings in your PAP2:

Line 1
  • NAT Mapping Enable: No
    Proxy: 192.168.1.1:5070
Use OB Proxy in Dialog: No
Display Name: your name (e.g. Moe_Ale)
    Password: leave blank
    Auth ID: leave blank
Hope this helps.

MagicJack Password

Post by datim1952 »

I have a Linksys PAP2T ATA adapter and an ASUS RT-N13U router that I am trying to connect with a MagicJack.
I have been able to set everything except the password.
I have tried pmdump, Fiddler2, textpad, Hex Editor and still have not been able to retrieve the password.
Can anyone give me some direction on how to proceed?
Thanks in advance.

Is it unlocked??
Are you planning to use it with a phone handset designed for the US market?
You will need to be careful with the type of phone you connect to the RJ-11 jack as the voltages and ring currents as well as the ring patterns may affect your phone electronics and voice quality, and, ultimately, its life.

Broad info regarding sip parameters can be gleaned from this forum but if you plan to use a NON-USA phone there are waaaaay too many parameters under the hood of the pap2 to manipulate.

Let us know
Good Luck

You might need to forward port 5070 (and these ports if you are still experience problems: 80, 443, 5070, 51000, 63710) from your Router to your PAP2.

([1235-9]11!|411S0|<:1311>[2-9]xxxxxxS0|1[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxxS0| 1441!|1473!|1649!|1758!|1767!|1784!|1876!|1[26][68]4!|1[28]68!| 124[26]!|134[05]!|167[01]!|18[06]9!|011!)
I am using this but i dont like pressing 1 for my local phone numbers, messes up my speed dial also. Plz if someone can give me this without the 1 infront of regualer phone numbers. my area code is 514 i am in canada.

As posted previously in this post, replace 1311 with 1514. That should work.

Need help to configure Grandstream HT-502 ATA

Post by Novice »

I thank MagicDump, mberlant and everyone else for contributing your knowledge to this forum. After seeing the clear instructions and screenshots posted by MagicDump, I was encourage to try configuring my Grandstream HT-502 ATA using the same steps. However, after trying a few times I realized that Grandstream HT-502 configuration screens are quite different from Linksys.

Can someone help / guide me by showing me the steps for configuring the Grandstream ATA? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

SIP Server:proxy1.NewYork.talk4free.com
Outbound Proxy: 192.168.1.1:5070
SIP User ID: EXXXXXXXXXXXX
Authenticated ID: EXXXXXXXXXXXX
SIP Registration: Yes

This is currently working for me. Change your SIP Server based on lowest ping and shortest path of the proxy servers listed here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r209511 ... -are-using

Hi twdy,

I greatly appreciate your reply to my post. Can you please clarify, "Change your SIP Server based on lowest ping and shortest path of the proxy servers"?

Also, other than the 5 settings that you mentioned in your reply, should I retain all the remaining default setting of my Grandstream HT-502?

Lastly, I found out that my MJ is using proxy1.Dallas.talk4free.com but my voice quality is rotten most times. Would changing the proxy to proxy1.NewYork.talk4free.com solve the problem?

Thanks a ton for all the help!

yes changing servers does make a difference. New york servers had some problem so i changed to another one and its perfect now.

go to run type "cmd" enter it. then type "ping (server name here without the brackets)" and enter.

Need help to configure Grandstream HT-502 ATA

Post by Novice »

I greatly appreciate the information Mastdesi! It has helped me understand which proxy I should use. However, I still do not know what all I have to change in the default config. of my Grandstream HT-502 ATA other than the following info I got from twdy:

SIP Server:proxy1.NewYork.talk4free.com
Outbound Proxy: 192.168.1.1:5070
SIP User ID: EXXXXXXXXXXXX
Authenticated ID: EXXXXXXXXXXXX
SIP Registration: Yes

I want to someone to confirm if this only is enough; if not then what else should be configured? I don't want MJ guys to detect that I am using an ATA and they block my service!

Thanks so much for your help!!

everything seems good but i have this " SIP Server: 192.168.1.1:5070 " so i can just change the server from the mjproxy. just run the mjproxy on your computer with the port 5070 open and everything should work fine.

i left my spa2102 as defualt also in the start then i changed some stuff like the dialplan .

Also i dont think they will find out if your using ata if u make a mistake in your configuration. Dont think, Just Do It. lol. go for it, its all testing.
