Powered USB hub shutting down laptops

I recently purchased a powered USB hub to see whether the quality of my MJ will improve and everytime I plugged the hub into my laptop, my laptop would restart. I tried a different laptop and same result. I tried a normal PC and no problems. anybody has a reason for this, or I just can't use PUH on a laptop? Thanks.
