If I understand your question correctly.

The updates come down automatically but are also triggered automatically when the computer is rebooted.

I would reboot only if your having issues with your MJ working correctly.

Note: the last few updates seem to help those running MJ on the computer/thin client to have better performance, those with ATAs have really had to work to keep it operational.

I don't have a thin client or a dedicated computer for my MJ. I use my desktop pc for MJ, and my housemate uses a laptop with wifi.

My MJ updates automatically. I thought everyone's did??? The only time I have ever gone looking for an update was when I was having some issues. I went to to last available update on the website, downloaded it, and that corrected the problem. I suspect that the auto download was disrupted and didn't not correctly download or install the first time.

You should only update if you are having problems with your Magic Jack.
I have been a Magic Jack user since 2007.
Do you get "you must plug into a USB port" error ??
Do you get "Broken Storage" error ??
Tired of talking to support for hours ??!
Lost your contacts ??!
I can have you up and running in about 5 minutes !
