No dial tone on the standard phone

Post by npereira »

Hello. I have received my MJ, it configured itself and the softphone works fine however the standard phone attached does not register a dial tone. I have checked the phone works well with my usual provider. I have even checked the RJ11/RJ11 new cable by using it with an ADSL Connection and that works fine. I have changed the settings on the account to in the Magic Jack settings by checking the option for PIN Not Recognized when entered on telephone. Reset the MJ by removing it safely and reinserting. However no change. Would getting a powered external USB hub help? Or am I overlooking something obvious, please advise. Thanks.

It would be a good try to use a powered usb hub. I would try a different phone as well. Also go into the settings on the softphone and make sure that the telephone option is checked and not the headset option.

Thanks Sabresfan.

I had forgotten to mention that I had already tried another standard analogue phone too and also had the settings on the softphone checked to the telephone option previously without any success.

Thanks for pointing that out. So am leaning towards the powered USB hub. Can you or others advise me if I could have overlooked anything else. Thanks for your help.

Best Regards

Are you using a phone that was made for the US market? Phones designed for overseas markets may not work with the MJ.
Good Luck!

I think the phone you have reuiqres more power to register a dial tone.

You might try a powered hub - if that does not work, return it back for cash.

Let us know how it worked out.
