5-Minute Outgoing Call Cut-Off

Post by Mr.Rogers »

I have read a couple of messages in this forum dated January 09 regarding the 5-minute outgoing call limit of MJ. I want to know if this is still happening to some of you and if it has been resolved already. I have only started experiencing the problem a few days ago. I'm calling from Philippines to Canada.

Thanks everyone!
using MJ to call from Phils to Canada everyday 4 times a day since Jan 09.

This is still happening with my sister's MJ, but the timing varies (3, 5, 6 minutes, etc...) She has to redial the call and than can be disconnected again, multiple times within a short period of time.

This is disturbing news.

Has this problem being resolved?

Is it a problem with MJ or the user's system?

She is no longer having this issue.

There are multiple other issues such as call quality. or the need to dial a number a few times before connecting, but this appears to be related to problems with the MJ servers.

If the problem is with MJ servers then this is of concern.

Is this with some specific servers?

Some servers are oversold but it's easy to block these and get to the servers that work great. MJ has 30 different servers in their network and most work without a problem. Atlanta, NY, LA are a few servers that have been reported to have some problems but it's really trial and error some people have problems with some servers and others don't. Just search in the forums and you can find a lot of great information about this.

I am aware about the servers issue as well as ways to block out servers yourself.

My consern is that MJ should be doing it themselves.

Does it make sense to connect a user to a server that is already overloaded?

So I was wondering if the OP's issue was with the device OR with the server he is connecting to.

The server you are set for is based on what area code you pick when you first activate the account. If MJ is selling as many dongle's as they say they are I would think it would be impossible for them to assign a specific server for each new account to balance out the load. The best way to know if the problem is with MJ's server or with the op's side is to block the server your set for and try out a couple of others to see if the problem persists. If it does then you can assume that something on the op's side does not work well with MJ and can narrow down the possible causes after that.

That's a pretty crappt load balancing strategy then.

What if area code 618 has 65k users while 908 has 1k?

That means no one in 618 will get a good service while 908 will have a field day.

Is this the current scanrio with MJs?

In that case should noe EVERYONE in 618 be complaining?

While I don't disagree with what your saying two things pop up in my head. One is you get what you pay for. MJ is or is about the "cheapest" voip service out there. The second is thanks to the very smart people at this forum at least there are ways to make MJ work and to do so with as little effort as possible. For less than $10 a month there are alternatives to MJ that are just plug and play and very reliable.
