Call Quality on Bit Torrent Server

Post by dlipter »

My Magic Jack is installed on a computer that I use to download torrent files using an entry level Verizon DSL service. Heavy torrent traffic seems to degrade call quality on the other end of the call.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this issue?

Upgrade to a faster connection maybe?

I don't want to have to pause my torrents during phone calls.

Thanks

Probably best to use a torrent client that limits both your upload and download (especially the upload which, believe it or not, effects the download). Utorrent is good for this.

Personally, I use Netlimiter to control any app that uses TCP/IP. Great control over your bandwidth usage which I find increases VOIP quality vs. the QOS settings that are in your router.

Any way to automatically throttle the bittorrent bandwidth down when the phone is in use and then throttle it back up when the phone call has ended?

Thanks

NetBalancer can prioritize bandwidth between programs. It might work.
