No practical way to have a Canadian number. Do you have a cell or landline? If so, that would be you local number. MJ gives you free outgoing calls to anywhere in Canada, US, and a couple of other places.shores wrote:hi,is any way to have a canadian number?,i live in canada ,i have an arizona #,thanx.
Canadian numbers
I got my unit from themagicjack.ca. the only diff between this and magicjack.com is units bought through themagicjack will be able to get Canadian numbers when and if they are available.
sorry - doesn't show as canadian numbers available "cheap" yet.
Remember magicjack to magicjack is FREE - so if you are trying to talk to someone in canada just get them a dongle of their own.
good luck

Re: Canadian numbers
If you have a MJ, are in Canada, and want to call a Canadian number, then it's a free call for MJ owners (unless I misunderstood your comment).cyborg054 wrote:Remember magicjack to magicjack is FREE - so if you are trying to talk to someone in canada just get them a dongle of their own.

I had LOUSY voice quality from the day I bought MJ. I bought a powered hub as that was a suggestion to fix choppy audio, but it didn't fix anything. I tried MJ on a different computer with XP, still same problem. Someone suggested it was my internet provider or connection, but no issues there as others have the same and speed/lag is fine. Tried it on my laptop at home and at a friend's place with 10mbps internet, it still sucked. I tried with/without router, firewall, antivirus, etc., fiddling with everything I could find info for, but nothing worked - choppy audio 100% of the time.bart53 wrote:Same here.My magicjack works exellent .I live in Eastern ,Ontario between Kingston and Brockville.Had problems till I got the powered hub....Bart53
Then when I was close to dumping MJ and going with a cheap VOIP provider, I decided to buy an ATA first and try the SIP settings with it and BANG, it worked!
It's worked perfectly ever since. And as long as MJ continues to function well with an ATA, I'll continue to support and pay for the service.
I can confirm MJ works well in western Canada. I use it from many places in BC. A friend in Markham, ON uses it to call BC and it works well. If you are inclined, there are lots of tips in these forums for working out the kinks to get a decent call.closer wrote:MJ works very poorly in Canada, at least in the GTA it does
I've only had my MJ for a month or so. I had a heck of a time trying to fix the lousy audio until I tried the ATA, and it fixed 99% of all my problems. Personally I think the MJ dongle is a piece of poorly designed junk (not the fault of MJ really since it's a TigerJet device). A relative of mine has one and it works fine for him through USB, so I think the quality control is an issue and many users get poor units while many others get good units.msiam wrote:Hmm.. How long has your MJ been working on ATA? MJ disabled this ability last june as far as I know.. Is it still up??
Anywho, the MJ dongle updated to version x.499.2 when I installed it and I simply put that into the ATA and it works fine. If the dorks at MJ disable the ability to use an ATA, they'll just lose any future money from me and anyone else I talk to who may be considering the MJ. I had to spend an extra $60 to buy the ATA to keep the MJ otherwise I would have returned it and got my money back and went with a cheap voip provider.
But so far I'm happy with the service for $20 a year.
I think the MJ device is poorly made and many users are simply getting flakey units. I could not resolve choppy audio on mine which I checked on several computers and operating systems, and different locations with different high speed connections - it never worked properly once. Yet a relative of mine got his several months earlier and it works perfectly fine via USB on similar hardware (tried my MJ on his setup and same issue!).tony wrote:I can confirm MJ works well in western Canada. So the ATA came into my life and we're happy campers now.
Re: change to canadian #
I think I forgot to address this question, although others have already. But no there is no free or cheap option for a Canadian number. I wish there were because some of my family/friends don't have free NA dialing available to them so it's LD. But I just tell them to call and hang up, and I call them back on my MJ line for free...it's a kludge, but it works. Actually about 90% of my phone calls are outboung on the MJ...shores wrote:hi,is any way to have a canadian number?,i live in canada ,i have an arizona #,thanx.
