Can't activate Magic Jack... Need help

Post by novicebb »

Purchase Magic Jack from someone on craigslist and the seller didn't tell me service had already expired.

When I try to extend service I am prompted to enter email address or phone number and password but the problem is that I have no idea what the email address or password is. I have tried contacting the person I purchased it from but can't get in touch with him.

Is there any way I can extend can use this device with out knowing the previous owners password and email address?

Try this:

You should be able to access your My.MagicJack page directly from the softphone without entering a password.

Follow these instructions:

Just click the yellow rectangle in the lower left corner of your MJ soft phone.

When you first click the yellow button, they will try to upsell you for more MJ's or, the 5 year package. While they are good deals, if you're just interested in signing for another year, you must then click the gray rectangle at the bottom of that screen.

Once you click the gray button, on the next page is your real "My Magick Jack" page. Click the "extend your license button." Then, it's as simple as entering your credit card info. After paying, they'll send you a code that you must enter into the box on your "My Magick Jack" page.

You'll be able to change your email address, but not your password. All that means, is you will not be able to log in and do things remotely.

Ok I clicked on the yellow rectangle in the lower left corner of the magic jack dial pad. In the yellow rectangle says "click here to order"

Once I click on that, Internet Explorer pops up and http://secure.magicjack.com/my/login.html comes up where again it asks for email address and password.

I don't see any grey button anywhere. What do I do now?

It's a long shot, but you can try using the official chat support from Magicjack.com. However, tell them this immediately:

"I need my password reset. I've been through first level support before, and they could not help. I want my problem immediately elevated to a higher level of support."

If the next level can't help, try elevating it again.

Tell them:

"I simply forgot my email/password combination for my Magic Jack. Look, human beings forget their passwords. I forgot which email address I used, because I have many. Almost ANY software that requires a password allows for this common problem. I want to PAY your company more money to renew my subscription. Please help me reset my email/password for my MJ. Thank you."

It's worth a try.

Please let us know what happens.

I've been through live chat before but I will give it another try as that sounds like a really good idea. I will let you all know what happens.

I swear the tech support for Magic Jack is non existent. Again I am asked the same questions over and over. What is the phone number on the dial pad of the MJ. Where did I purchase it.

Click on the "order now" section and yet no one seems to be able to help on that so called "live chat". Very frustrating.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. The reason you had to pretend you forgot your own password, is because they don't allow resale of MJ's.

How many levels were you able to elevate to?

I was able to elevate to like 5 levels. The 3rd guy I spoke to really seem like he had a solute. I mean he was telling me to go to "start" then "run" then type in this and that and then all of a sudden another support staff member came on.

Not sure what I should do now. Should I just sell it and get another Magic Jack?

I'm sorry you weren't able to get this problem resoved.

There are two lessons here:

1) Buyer beware.

2) Do unto others...

Obviously, the right thing to do, would be to throw away the non-working MJ, (or sell it or offer it for free with a disclaimer that you couldn't get it to work) and buy another through reputable sources. All you have to do is spend $40, and you'll receive a working phone with "unlimited" calling for a year. The bonus of not selling off a worthless piece of junk to another unsuspecting victim, is you get to maintain your integrity.

I know it sucks to get burned.
