error, activated US number but i need CA number

Post by boar »

i purchased my first magicjack yesterday from a local store here in canada. I thought i was going to get a free canadian number with the device since i got it from a local store. To my suprise, the phone number gaved to me was a number from the US, you see the problem ?, i was chating with live reps and they said (i chatted with a few on 2nd level support) the number can no longer be changed to a Canadian number since the device is already activated, i have to use a new device... i went back to the store to get an exchange and they said they cant do it because the device is already activated. Now, i cannot ask people to call me because they will be calling the US which will be a long distance call. What should i do ? is there a hack to reset the chip and the data and reactivate the device again ? I still do not understand why this is, why magicjack can't reset the device for me and give me a canadian number, i now know that i have to pay extra 10$ for that which at first i thought it was included in the initial price.. this is frustating. any advice will be appreciate!

You should get one free number change before you are required to pay $10.

i tried but the only available options i had was to choose another US city for my new number. There's no CA cities. A supervisor told me they will be available by the end of this year, the problem is i need it for "right" now. I still do not understand why they cannot remotly reset my device or delete my account so the device reacts by reactivating itself. Hopefully the supervisor didn't lie just to get me off her back..i'll have to wait, if there's another way, well at least for now, i would like to read it.

Search "Canadian"

The topic has been discussed many time and with a little reading, you'll get all your answers.

Bottom line
- you cannot transfer to a CDN line, you must get it on initial activation.
- there are limited numbers available and they go quickly

Try returning your MJ as defective to store to get a new 1

unless the registration process has changed, I thought MJ users selected a number from a drop down list. How is that you were "given a number"? Did you buy a previously activated MJ? A returned item perhaps? If so, you should be able to bring it back to the store and say it's already been activated and has a number assigned to it that you don't want.

Which city are you in and which city are you trying to get a CDN number? Curious, in case there's another way to solve your number problem.

Yes,

They are offering Canadian number at the time of registration at this time and they have limited numbers for Canada . However they are adding new slots to available area codes of Canada and US.

One more thing you will have to pay $10.00 PER YEAR for Canadian number.
Happy to help you !

Well, according to the magic jack chat rep. (7pm Dec. 26, PST), being able to switch from a US to a Canadian number will be arriving within the next few days. Gentlemen (and ladies), start your engines.
