What do you think? :) Can I get my money back and how??

Post by Paula »

Oh, god. So glad I just found this site.

My MJ failed yesterday (a small gift from those fun people at MJ) and was on a three hour chat to get it fixed. Of course nothing worked and to make a long story short, MJ will send me a replacement for $9.95. They don't seem able to grasp the idea that a product should not fail after all of two and a half month's of use.

I filed complaints with the W Palm Beach BBB and FCC, but any suggestions on what to do next?

Many thanks in advance.

Cars can fail after you drive it off the lot. EVERYTHING can fail. That is why God invented warranties. A pain in the ass for sure BUT nice to have JUST IN CASE it fails.
If you want to keep the same phone # as your orig MJ make sure you chat with support BEFORE you plug the new one in.

So lets see... Your MJ failed and they will send you another one and you felt the need to complain to the FCC AND BBB? Sheesh. Who do you contact when you have a REAL problem, Obama??

Did you get it from MJ directly? If so they have a 30 day money back guarantee, otherwise you should try to return it to wherever you bought it. If you just got it and it doesn't work you shouldn't have any problems getting a refund.

Sorry, but I tend to agree with bitstopjoe on this one. Case in point, I recently bought an external HD for back up from Staples and it failed in about a month, or just one week after the trial period.

We haggled a little and the store manager was gracious enough to credit the original purchase amount to a new unit (different manufacturer) and to show good faith, I purchased the extended warranty. But she was pretty clear she was under no obligation. (I think it was my boyish good looks and charming smile!)

IMO, pay the $9.95 for the new unit and be happy. Or, you could pay $35/month + tax, license and dealer prep to your local POTS provider and do away with the dongle altogether.

Oh, one more thing... a three hour chat over a $9.95 replacement??!! How little is your time worth?

Oh yeah. One more, one last thing. Please take this to Rants & Raves or some other forum. This one is for Tips, Tricks, and Hacks.

This was my first post on this forum, and I was simply asking for advice. Something Joe Sica and Darkman90808 apparently felt required sarcastic remarks. Please keep those to yourself. Those remarks were totally out of place and uncalled for. If you have nothing sensible to say to my questions, then post your snarky replies to others. Apparently, you seem to get a kick out of that. How very childish.

Sllly me, I buy a product that fails after less than three months, THERE IS NO WARRANTEE for MJ other than their so called one month trial period and the damn company wants to charge me shipping for a replacement? And by the way, to those named above, MJ's so called shipping charge of $9.95 is three dollars more than the original shipping price.

I just got a new MJ on black Friday for $29.95. When i set it up I had to use a credit card and I had to pay $1 for a one year replacement warranty. THe $1 was sure why not, but i was a little pissed I had to use a cc to continue with registration. I wonder how you register without one.
..... about the 9.95 you were charged, I agree, they should replace it, how much is it worth to them for customer satisfaction and good word of mouth, but i guess they just look at the numbers and thats good enough for them.

First of all, my comments weren't sarcastic; I meant what I said. Before posting on a forum, especially as a new member, it's common netiquette to observe, read, and search for answers before posting. For crying out loud, the forum title says, Tips, Tricks, and Hacks and all the others are clearly labeled as well, i.e. Rants and Raves, Reviews, etc.

And yes, silly you. Products sometimes fail outside their warranty period. It happens; get used to it. It's called the real world. Sheesh! Now wonder Obama got elected. The whole world now expects a free lunch.

Obama who?????????????????
HOPEFULLY after Nov 2010 thats what most people will be asking.
I wasn't going to reply to Paula, but I guess my Obama comment to her was a tad sarcastic. Considering she IS a newbie, perhaps I should have refrained.
Paula I would get back with online support and bitch and moan about paying $10 to replace your MJ.
You really should have bought it locally as you might have been able to convince them ( the local store) to replace it for free after failing so soon.
Darkman IS correct about searching here as you have NO IDEA all the questions which can be answered ASAP by searching ( however yours I don't think would have been be one of them). We just thought you went WAY overboard ( contacting the FCC and BBB) for a $10 shipping charge. MJ COULD have said, tough go buy a new one!! $40 instead of $10...
