How can i start magicjack manually from the desktop?
I tryed to search the forum but found no results on this topic, found a procedure on wikipedia but i dont understand what they mean they dont explain it very well im not an engineer. Im getting tired of the 2 mintues it takes to load magicjack when i start windows i like having fast bootup, i would just like to start it when i use it which isnt very often. running magicjack as a service isnt a bad idea but im afraid i wont ever get to see the dialpad ever again i dont like that because the numbers on my phone dont always work (works ok on landline) sometimes i need to use the dialpad to make a call. if i could get it to load manually from the desktop that would be much better for me also sure would be great if they could eliminate the picture of the magicjack dongle on my screen when i load the magicjack program it sits there forever saying stuff like tell your friends and what not, very annoying any suggestions?

This is what I did. This is not mine but something I found on here 1 yr or so ago and it worked perfect for me:
*****************************
NO SPLASH
Install Startup Control Panel then run the application.
You can find the link in the control panel, it will be called Startup.
I had to switch to classic view to find it.
After starting the program click on the HKCU / Run tab.
You need to uncheck cdloader which is what normally starts magicjack.
Next click on the HKLM / Run tab.
Right click anywhere in the box and select "New".
On the line for Program name you can type what you like.
I typed "Magicjack Quick Start" on mine.
On the line for the programs pathcut and paste the following:
"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "I:\magicJack"
Use everything including the quotes.
My magicjack's drive was letter I. If yours is different then change the "I" in the path to what ever your drive letter is.
If you don't know which drive is correct drive, right click on the drive and click explore. It will be the drive with the file that is named "do not use this drive". Then click OK.
Make sure you have a check in the box in front of the key you just created then click the "x" on the top right corner to close the program.
THATS IT!!!!!!
Reboot and see if it works for you.....
I'm using Windows XP. If you are using Vista then I believe the path will be slightly different. Do a search in the forum and you will find the correct path.
Enjoy the quicker startup.

Re: starting magicjack manually
Locate the MJ shortcut on your desktop, then in the Target box, enter the path to your MJ folder (as he indicated above).kriscrash4x4 wrote:this procedure doesnt seem to mention anything about starting magicjack manually from a shortcut correct?
Also, if your username is not "Adminstrator" you have to change that too.
e.g if your user name is John Doe and your MJ path is E, you would enter:
"C:\Documents and Settings\John Doe\Application Data\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "E:\magicJack"
If there is no MJ shortcut currently on your desktop, then just create a new one. Use the settings above for the Target and for the Start In location, add the path to the MJ folder e.g.
"C:\Documents and Settings\John Doe\Application Data\mjusbsp"

starting magicjack
like i say,
if i could get it to load manually from the desktop that would be much better for me also sure would be great if they could eliminate the picture of the magicjack dongle on my screen.
i would need the procedure to do both in one replay perhaps i have the procedure here on this page but i would feel better if it was all in one and not broken up in diffrent posts i dont want to mess my magicjack up trying to figure it out im not as sharp as i used to be unless someone can tell me do everything that was written on this page and everything will be okay

You're clearly not paying attention, are you? There is a SINGLE post which I wrote above that shows you how to do it.kriscrash4x4 wrote:like i say,

Then you need to look into getting an Image Backup Program like Acronis ( www.acronis.com). They have a free trial on their web page of Acronis home 2010. You can make an image or your C: drive and then IF things don't go well you can do a restore and everything will be back to the way it was PRIOR to you making any changes. I use it ALL the time and never have to uninstall bad software. I make an image first and if I dont like the software or the tweeks I have done, I do a restore and it is like I never installed anything or did any tweeks.
Also I did not know you were ill, so I appoligize for my harsh words.

uhm, all he needs is to make sure System Restore is enabled. For something as simple as this, thats all that is needed if he wants to roll back.bitstopjoe wrote:Then you need to look into getting an Image Backup Program like Acronis ( www.acronis.com). Though I have to wonder why creating something as simple as a shortcut is causing so much consternation to the extent that we're talking about image backups. wow.
