Call history vanished
Does MagicJack delete/expunge Calls log/history at the beginning of the year? I was going to make a call today and noticed that my Calls history is completely empty. I didn't delete it myself.
How can I get my Calls log/history back?

Mine is still there, so I assume that they don't delete it systematically when a new year begins.
As how you can get it back I'm sorry I can't help you with that. But maybe you can try the online chat support, who knows they might be able to restore it in you MJ if they have a copy of it, which wouldn't surprise me at all.
Good luck.

Re: Call history vanished
Well let us see… over the last couple of day’s MJ has force feed a update that prevented my MJ adapter from function at all. After formatting, the device and downloading the most recent update software from MJ’s website system started working again, only to now have a deleted call history and contact list. As well, I have a very annoying message on the soft dialer now that my system will try to download my contacts in “Another 4 minutes” Question is where, and who now has access to my private contact list… I do not recall ever transferring my authority for MJ to pull or store my contact list anywhere but on the device itself.madraida wrote:Does MagicJack delete/expunge Calls log/history at the beginning of the year? So the solution for my has been to run a format on the device, then downloading and running the Windows 7 upgrade going back to a back-up of my contact list from yesterday.
This seems to have fixed my problems. However I am looking at other services, and devices now that don’t allow this type of invasion into my private information… The best way to send a message to unscrupulous companies is to find alternatives and financially support honorable and honest companies.

I can't help much with lost data but if any trace is still there it will be in a file called "AddressBook.xml" without quotes.
The normal location for that file the "removable drive" section of the dongle, accessed through My Computer. The drive letter will vary yet it is the one that has the name "magicJack" and the type "Removable Disk" [it's NOT the CD drive]. Once there, go into the magicJack folder and you'll find the addressbook.xml although your's may be empty. For the future you may want to periodically save a copy of that file.
You can also try a search of all hard drives for addressbook.xml and see what comes up. If you have a backup then simply put in in the above named default location and restart the mj softphone. You may want to rename/save all copies, even the bad ones until the problem gets straightened out.
As a last resort, it may be possible to use recovery software to find it in the original location. There are some free softwares available like on Hiren's Boot Disk for example, among many choices.

This happened to me also. First it was just the call history... Not sure what day it actually lost it...
So I got kinda worried and backed up my addressbook.xml you gotta uncheck you hidden files to see the file. Anyway...
After downloading some updates from windows 7 I also go the same message... MJ cant download your contacts. I reloaded it 5 times, upgraded it twice. even went to the live help and did all the hunky poky steps...
At the end of the call they say their engineers are working on it and will fix it from their end.
RIGHT!!! somehow I doubt that. I do think it's a windows 7 problem. At least I can still makes calls just annoying.
click on calls and it just says your calls were not downloaded. I think it might be some security issue with windows 7 not allowing MJ to communicate with the drive. I'm gonna try a few things like sharing it to see if that may help... Stupid windows 7 not allowing you to access your own files.

I am having the same issue on a Mac OSX
Call logs disappeared - I went in to try to block a number from a spam caller (that I was pretty sure I had blocked before, but just wanted to check) and discovered all the contact info is gone. Even test calls I made to myself from cell phone are not showing up.
I am having other issues - calls not ringing through - or ringing on app rather than phone, but not sure this is related and it is just part of the pretty inconsistent service with MagicJack. When it works, it's great, and really cheap, but I wouldn't want to have to count on it.
