I've been reading the posts about DD-WRT and MJ and SIP/ATA. Does anyone know of a way to utlize a router/ATA and a regular phone? Connect the phone to a port on the router to eliminate the PC?
Any help would be appreciated.

MJ with Router and Regular Phone

Re: MJ with Router and Regular Phone
Well sounds like you have the way. The ATA allows you to use a regular phone and only needs to be connected to a router. The MJMDM5 proxy allows you to use MJ credentials in the ATA and get them registered on your ATA.fester113 wrote:I've been reading the posts about DD-WRT and MJ and SIP/ATA. You need some sort of interface to use a regular phone. WiFi phones could be used without an ATA.fester113 wrote:OK, so the ATA connects the phone to the router and the proxy software acts as the go between.
So where does one get the ATA from?
Otherwise, can you just utilize the router and the phone without the ATA.
Fester.
Just search eBay for ATA. I like the linksys 2102s which provide two phone lines (1 for phone and one for fax or two phones) and they include a second RJ-45 so you can plug them into you router and then plug your computer into the 2102 as well which makes them easier to locate away from the main router.
The 2102's actually contain a router themselves. I have not heard of anyone running MJMDM5 proxy in the 2102 but it may be possible although definitely not a novice task.

If you need the proxy. I bought my MJ device in Sept 2009 and I don't use a proxy. I just put my SIP info into the ATA and I'm making calls. Some MJ devices made earlier seem to require the proxy. I don't know if it was a timing thing or what as my MJ does not match either of the two known versions of the device indicating mine is a third revision.fester113 wrote:OK, so the ATA connects the phone to the router and the proxy software acts as the go between.
Lots of computer supply shops that carry individual components like hard drives, memory, motherboards, may have them. I dropped into a shop near me and picked up a good ATA for $60 CDN.So where does one get the ATA from?
As someone else said, no, you need the ATA to connect the phone. An ATA is an Analog Telephone Adaptor that converts the typical analog voice phone into digital data packets that can be sent over the net (VoIP). Without the ATA, you have nowhere to plug in a telephone. That's what the MJ device does, it converts the analog phone signals into digital data and then the software on your computer puts it into packets to send over the net.Otherwise, can you just utilize the router and the phone without the ATA.
