Is there a way to stop the outgoing Caller ID from saying 'MagicJack'? Is there a way to have the outgoing Caller ID be my name?
Thanks

Where are you getting MagicJack displayed for caller-id?.kramertal wrote:Is there a way to stop the outgoing Caller ID from saying 'MagicJack'? Is there a way to have the outgoing Caller ID be my name?

Cell or landline??
Who is the carrier?
Call 800 444 4444 and listen as this service reads back your caller-id.
I am pretty certain your mj device only sends your mj phone number as caller-id number. It is dependent on the receiving carrier to 'dip' into their own database connection to add caller-id name and to display both pieces of caller-id when connecting to a land line.
Cell carriers are lmited by the single line display of most phones to only show number.
There is no way for you, as a mj customer, to be able to influence what shows up on farside as MJ is only sending your caller-id number info.
There was a time when MJ customers could 'spoof' the outbound caller-id number bet never the caller-id name.
Good Luck

My landline phone says "Out of Area" and the MJ's phone number.
Many people that my wife calls won't answer "OOA" or anonymous calls...she works for a non-profit and the people she is calling are afraid that it's a bill collector. If they see her name, they will pick up.
Is there a workaround using Google Voice or something else?

The best work around I've found is sipgate, although it costs .019/min. However, you can effectively spoof your number, including Google Voice which you can't do with Skype. I'm using the Xlitejack plugin for the purpose.
There is one caveat. You must "buy" a free number before spoofed CID works. Since I didn't have a need for another phone number, I didn't bother to sign up for one until I realized it was necessary for the spoof to work. You'll find it under the "Buy" tab, even though it's free.
First level Support wasn't aware of this either, until it was escalated. Of course, you can always call out through your Google Voice account if you have one, but sometimes it's just faster and easier for me to go through sipgate.

Just now I located a thorough treatment of CID spoofing, almost information overload, at http://www.calleridspoofing.info/
It doesn't have the answer I'm seeking, but it tells almost everything else you would ever want to know about the topic.
