Has anyone determined how to block MagicJack updates!!!

Post by lseay29 »

The 12/24/09 Lucky You upgrade, YEAH RIGHT, is causing a Microsoft error screen after one phone call and shuts down MagicJack. The screen states" MagicJack USB Softphone has encountered a problem and needs to close" I do not have contacts in Magicjack but tried the Windows 7 upgrade anyway after deleting the CfgCache.dat file as reccommended to no avail. I downloaded and installed upgrade 14.exe reverting MagicJack t back to August 09' and it works for a few minutes until the 12/24/09 upgrade automatically downloads. I notived with the latest upgrade my advertisement scrren on the left of the softphone is blank. After reverting to upgrade14 the advertisement screen works and then announces an important update is being downloaded. I am running MagicJack on a HP T5700 Thin Client with XPe and this is the only computer I am having this issue on. MagicJack works fine on a laptop and desktop with XP and a laptop with Winndows 7. This forum has been a great wealth of information and thanks to all, but unless I missed a thread somewhere I haven't seen a solution that works for me. Any thoughts would be greatly apprecited!!!

I don't believe anyone has. I've done some searching myself and still have not found a way to disable the updates.

Nope................
LOTS of suggestions here over the last few years but I have found NONE have worked..
For sure a P.I.T.A. when everything is working great and an "update" screws it all up. A la June 2009 when the beeping problem was introduced via an "update".

I've never had any problems with my MJ until this last update. Very unfortunate when a company sends out updates that causes problems to those who werking fine.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping I had possibly missed a fix somewhere. Is anyone else running a Thin Client with this issue and by chance found a solution?

All I can suggest is email [email protected]. One of his cronies will read it and reply. I did that after the last update when my contact list would not load. After many dumb suggestions they finally gave me the roll back update and all was well again. Of course after they felt they had solved the contact list problem, they pushed the update through again 3 days later.
They may not be aware of your problem with the update, so it is worth a shot to contact them that way.

I will do that since everything was working fine on the Thin Client computer until the 12/24/09 update was pushed down on 6 January. Since then I have been trying different solutions on the forum with no success and having to run it on a laptop for phone service until I can get this corrected. Since I do not have a landline, I have relied on MagicJack on a Thin Client for my phone service in my home and it has worked great, till now.

I have read other TC people are having problems as well after the update. MAYBE MJ did that on purpose??
Make sure you note that in your email you are on a TC.

Let me know what happens..

Just sent the email to Dan with a read receipt and I gave all the specifics of the problem and the OS specs on the TC. Hopefully someone can come up with a solution. I am reading about setting up MajicJack as a service and may try that since I can lock down the TC after making changes. Now if I can just get it loaded with the update 14 and then lock it down from any further updates.

I don't know if this is a fix or not but I noticed that MJ was not running on my thin client. I rebooted, MJ started, then I did a commit and rebooted again. It has now been working fine since.

Maine-iac...were you getting the Microsoft error screen prior to commiting
and rebooting on your TC?

I have found a fix, unfortunately it will not work for my application. If the date is changed, in my case to 2009, commit the changes to the TC and reboot, MJ seems to work with no Microsoft error message. It worked for 30 minutes and made several phone calls. Unfortunately I also run a weather program on my thin client computer feeding updated information to WeatherUnderground on the web. Backdating the date stops my updated weather information from being displayed on the web so I had to change the date backto 2010 and MJ now has the error srceen after one phone call. I am going to post this in a new thread to hopefully help some other thin client users.
