Easy way to stop popups and run MagicJack in the background

Post by Adam423 »

Hi All,

I was trying to figure out a way to run MagicJack without the really annoying popup when the phone rings and to have it start on boot before login so the phone would work if my PC restarted without me logging in.

I tried the magicBlock software fix and it worked except there was still a quick flash when the phone rang and the other fixes to run MagicJack as a service seemed kind of extreme.

Anyway I found the fix described below that not only has MJ running in the background but eliminates the MJ UI. In my case I use Google voice as the main phone interface so I do not need the MJ UI for anything.

Please check this out and let me and all others know if this is a valid fix for all the issues mentioned above. It seems to be working well for me under Win 7. What this process does is load the MJ software after boot, but before login. Here are the steps: Assumes MJ is plugged in and working

1: Go to Windows>>All Programs>>Accessories>>Run
2: Type: gpedit.msc Enter to get to the Group Policy Editor
3: Double lick on Windows Settings Folder
4: Double click Scripts (Startup/Shutdown)
5: Double Click Startup
6: Click Add and browse to the USB drive that has the MJ software and chose the Autorun.exe file, click open then OK. In my case it was F:\Autorun.exe
7: Reboot. You phone should work before you login and the task manager shows magicJack.exe running.

Pretty simple and seems to work well. Please let me know if I missed anything.

Thanks,

Adam
