Have contacts but no AddressBook.xml file

Post by trobinson017 »

I've seen the threads about backing up your MJ contact list. I only have 5 contacts but thought I'd go ahead and test the backup. However, there is no AddressBook.xml file under my F:\magicJack\magicjack directory. This is the formattable USB drive in my folders listing. I've even done a Windows search on that name and nothing found. Yet the contacts are in my MJ softphone and I can call them. Any ideas what's up?

I guess you haven't searched the forum very well.
After the January MJ update your contacts are no longer stored locally on your PC but on MJ's server. That update messed up a lot of peoples pc's.
Here is a downgrade "update" link that shpuld help you....

Thanks for the info! I did search the forums and got tons of hits back. I looked thru a few of the threads but didn't see anything directly relating to my issue. I just got my MJ 2 days ago and I guess I misunderstood what everyone was talking about with hosed up upgrades.

Thanks again!

That downgrade did the trick!! Thanks again and thanks for the links!!

My next task is to see if I can add pauses to a contact list number so I can include passcodes and PINs for conference calls when dialing.

You may want to do a search for MJ and multi user conference calling.
If you are using an 800 # for people to call into and have a conference call you may be SOL.
MJ had their own conference call # now ( seems non MJ ones were charging MUCHO $$$ )

There is a MJ addon which will allow you to add a delay to your dialing. It is not free, however. http://www.pcphonesoft.com/
I do not believe you can do that with MJ dialer alone. UNLESS the phone you are using allows you to do it via speed dial.

Glad the downgrade helped you.

What would prevent the MJ from upgrading itself once more to where the contacts are held on the MJ server and not the local addressbook.xml file?

Since the "downgrade" upgrade is authorized from MJ to fix the contact list problem, as of right now they are NOT sending their update through.
However once MJ feels they have "fixed" the problem trust me they will send an update through and superseed the downgrade. They did this once before earlier this month after the first update REALLY screwed things up. I got a link from MJ and in fact I was able to go back to the Aug 2009 update. After about a week they pushed through the latest update and my contact list problem was fixed. They had to go back to a downgrade again as it seems the update also caused some MJ's to crash.

Ah .... didn't realize it was an official "downgrade". I hope they don't mess it up anymore. If the thing works, why "fix" it.
