Magic Jack Noob Question

Post by starrouter »

:) Hello everyone. I just recieved my Magic Jack yesterday. I should be having wireless broadband hooked up next week sometime. My wireless broadband is 640k / 640k upload AND download. Is this enough bandwidth for the Magic Jack to work properly ? I would like to have DSL but it's not available here. I went with a local wireless ISP because they offer better bandwidths for the price than the majors (wb, hn) especially on the upload side. Thanks and I'm looking forward to getting my magic jack working.

Bandwidth-wise, you're golden.

You actual MJ performance depends on other variables, however. Wireless or wired, particular ISP, computer hardware, software environment, etc will dictate your results.

Most people can use it right out of the box. Others are able to tweak it to work, and still others just give up.

I hope you have a positive experience.

The bandwidth should be suitable. Ask the WISP if they have other customers using VOIP. So long as their system is not interjecting significant lag time or causing packet loss with your circuit, you should be OK. Be sure to get a router that allows you to control QOS. Look in these forums for ideas.

Thanks for the replies....Since I haven't got a router yet, what would you suggest ? I kind of like Linksys but I see where some of them may not work well with mj.
