My Sound Quality is Hit and Miss

Post by saxman »

Ok, I had great sound all day today. No delays or echo or clicking and then right after 5pm when people get home and jump on their computers the sound gets bad. Now, I have clicking and echo and it makes no sense except my neighbors are now home and using the pipe. I have dsl. I need this thing to come through clear most of the time and am getting frustrated with it. My friends are getting pissed at me for the sound and I try thr "fix" and it still sounds like a 3rd world phone right now. Any ideas on a real solution would be most appreciated and any tips I will gladly try. I have already moved it around the ports. The problem is that it's an intermittent defect in the sound. At times it's great and other times like now at the peak hour it's not. Is this because it's on DSL?

When your quality is poor, test to Boston at http://www.testyourvoip.com/ . If the score is low, you'll know that the trouble is with your ISP or on your own LAN. If it's good, let us know, so we can learn what portions of MJ infrastructure may be inadequate.

I ran the test at a real slow use time of day. 5AM - Looks good-it's just above the "like calling next door" reading. Thats good to know but unfortunately it seems to go South on me around the other 5 o'clock- in the evening, when everyone jumps on their pcs.-If I can get all my neighbors to co-operate and go offline while I use the phone it would work out really good-(for me!) lolBut, don't see that happening anytime soon-I'll test it again tonight when it's busy. I also tried testing closer to home from here in Wa. Called San Jose and got the same score. My phone is nearly new.( MJ tech support said to try another phone)-my pc is AMD Athlon 3000 w/ 1gig ram and 350 gb. hd. using 1.5 DSL--
