What do you mean by "using my cell phone with MJ?"xzimppledink wrote:Where can I find instructions for using my cell phone with MJ? Also what is the magic jack help line number?
There is not phone number to call MJ. If you need customer service, they have chat support access at their website.

cell phone.
used the chat. Magic Jack cell phone service now is only for international calls. According to chat they plan to have it available soon for domestic calls as well, but not yet. Incidentally, I discovered a cure for the intermittent voice problem by changing my DSL from channel 1 to channel 9. Breakup cleared up and quality in much better. They also said MJ will work with linux. I have Ubuntu 9.10 in my backup computer.

Re: cell phone.
How would domestic calls via cell phone help you? Every cell phone I've used, already lets me make toll free domestic calls, only costing me the minutes I use. How can calling an MJ number to initiate the call make that any better?xzimppledink wrote:used the chat. Magic Jack cell phone service now is only for international calls. The "Femtojack" is a separate product that is not released yet.
However, I've been informed that designating a number like that in your "friends and faimly" or "my faves" list would let you call with free minutes.
A good way to get that functionality could be to get a free Google Voice number, and designate it in the list.

Re: cell phone.
A cell phone is NOT required for this feature. Any phone with a consistent outbound caller-id can be used to call into the designated number MJ will assign you for this featurexzimppledink wrote:Magic Jack cell phone service now is only for international calls. Bear in mind that MJ makes a good profit when you use international minutes. It is easy to understand they would facilitate your using those minutes via this 'virtual pinless calling card' feature.
The likelihood of this feature being implemented for domestic calling is next to zero. Whereas the methodology for deploying a 'virtual credit card' feature is identical regardless of calling int'l or domestic destinations, MJ/YMAX incurs a cost for every domestic call made and generates a profit with international (prepaid by YOU) calls.
Guess which route Dan will take!!!
Good Luck

The lady on magic jack chat didn't seem to be very well informed. She said you just plug MJ into a USB port for Linux. That may be true but my experience with Linux says things won't work that easy. I'll have to see it. as for domestic cell phone on magic jack. Obviously I don't know how it will work, that was the topic for my question. If it works like my regular phone it will not use up my "cell phone minutes".

As far as I know, MJ does not work natively under Linux.xzimppledink wrote:The lady on magic jack chat didn't seem to be very well informed. She said you just plug MJ into a USB port for Linux. Regarding the cell phone, again, I think you're mixing up Magic Jack with the unreleased FemtoJack.
