Magic Jack sound quality sucks

I have had this piece of junk for about 2 months and the sound quality during a phone call is PATHETIC. I can barely hear the person on the other end and they tell me that everything they say is an echo.
I have tried several different phones and it is the same on each. In my book Magic Jack is a ripoff and waste of money. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to make it actually work? I should have returned it to Radio Shack for a refund of my $39.95 plus tax. Too late now.

There are many fixes available for sound quality. It all depends on how much you want to put into solving your problem. I would start off by reading the MJ wiki http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack and searching in the forum under echo and choppy audio. It's hard to give advice on a possible fix when there are many possible causes of poor sounding calls. Also give some details on your setup and that can help others get you in the right direction.

I've posted this question in the tip section, with no replies, so I thought I do a quick "piggy-back" on this same problem I sometimes have:

I'm running Windows XP Home.

Can somebody confirm whether or not having the Windows Telephony Service running improves sound quality. I've tried it both ways, and I really can't tell. I did, however, read someplace that it should be running, but I can't find where I read that.

No idea, sorry........ Works fine for me if and when I need to use it.
Search on CHOPPY SOUND and you get a lot of results yes, but what you need IS THERE if you take the time to read. A LOT of posts were made on that subject, along with beeps and a few others. So yes the search results can be a bit overwhelming but when you zero in on what you are looking for there is a WEALTH of infomation to be found here.
Just my 2 cents.

I just did a forum search on "hears echo" without the quotes. I clicked the option to make sure the forum search looked for both words, not either/or. I found what looked to be relevant results.

Search is fine. But if you search for words like "voip" then yes you're going to get many irrelevant results. Change your search terms to something more specific to your problem.
