Support Says Email of VoiceMail will not work with Comcast

Post by carlson294 »

I've had my MJ for coming on about a year... lived through some problems... its not the greatest.. but it works.
Today I get some voicemails and they do not go to email (I have Comcast). I had a problem with that during installation.. but not since. After doing a restart from the server and on my systems and doing some other stuff on the internet security stuff... I was bumped up to another Tech .. who basically said that Comcast does not accept WAV files from Magic Jack!!
WHAT!???
I don't want to change to Gmail or yahoo..
Any suggestions?
Jim

I am including the log of the support chat with the agent...
Prince: Please hold as i read your previous chat, Thank you
Jim Carlson: ok
Jim Carlson: fYI now the messages don't show up on my phone as they did before I called today
Prince: One moment please...
Jim Carlson: ok
Prince: do you have a different email?
Jim Carlson: yes
Prince: comcast.net has a limited storage for wav file.
Prince: what is it?
Jim Carlson: it is still comcast.
Jim Carlson: messages were very short.. I had no problem with this before
Prince: we need a yahoo or gmail.
Jim Carlson: WHAT????
Jim Carlson: I only look at email through outlook express
Jim Carlson: I don't want to open a new email browers based
Jim Carlson: what changed?????
Jim Carlson: Is this a NEW requirement?
Prince: There is no changes, there is no problem. The only problem is your email adddress
Jim Carlson: I can give you [email protected]
Jim Carlson: but I don't have another email
Jim Carlson: if no changes.. why do I need to change email address?
Prince: Comcast.net storage of wav file is limited
Jim Carlson: when did THAT change?
Jim Carlson: I have messages from a few days ago
Jim Carlson: using comcast
Jim Carlson: I can send a wav file to my account with no problem
Prince: It DID NOT change
Prince: That is how comcast.net works
Prince: Yes i know that you have receive voicemail email from magicjack recently
Jim Carlson: ok.. it did work fine a day ago..
Prince: Yes i understand
Jim Carlson: yes.. I sent my self messages..
Jim Carlson: today.. 4 of them
Prince: Yes i know.
Jim Carlson: I got 2 messages this afternoon that didn't show up in email.. but a few days ago.. I got email on comast with my messages
Jim Carlson: it was not a problem
Prince: I know that.
Jim Carlson: so what changed?
Prince: Contact comcast.net if you need more information on why you are not getting any wav file from magicjack anymore.
Jim Carlson: So you are saying that ALL magic jack customers can not use comcast.net for getting their emails???
Prince: yes they can but when the comcast.net wav file storage is full you will not be able to get wav file anymore because they are limited.
Prince: you cannot blame us and magicjack here blame comcast.net
Prince: You are having problems with your email and not with magicjack.
Jim Carlson: OK.. will you please let me speak to a supervisor.. I want to hear that same thing from someone else and print this out and go to Comcast with it...
Prince: i'm one of the supervisor here there is no need to speak to the boss as i am speaking in behalf of them and the magicjack.
Jim Carlson: OK... thank you.. I have one more question...
Prince: sure.
Jim Carlson: Does Comcast just delete or refuse the emails it can not handle or do they finally show up?
Jim Carlson: And this is a know problem.. many people have this .. no one can get your service through Comcast.net email
Prince: Please contact comcast.net if you need more details and if you want an accurate answers.
Jim Carlson: you should know if your customers can not use a service or not...
Jim Carlson: my next phone call will be to Comcast...
Jim Carlson: goodbye
Prince: This not a comcast customer representative, we do not have an idea on how they run their system. It is better to contact comcast than to contact magicjack because you are having problems with your provider.
Jim Carlson: ok.. I'll check with them
Jim Carlson: goodbye
Prince: Thank you for stopping by to chat, I hope I did a good job at addressing your concerns. Please take a second to answer a one question survey about the service I provided. Please click the "close" button on the top right of this screen and the survey will appear. Thanks again!

I would contact Comcast (as Prince suggested) and ask their support if that's true. I don't believe it myself, but what do I know?

An update

Post by carlson294 »

Called Comcast.... They have no problem with getting wav files or any other type of files.. so I called back.. went through the same basic games with the first agent.. then was sent to Marykate... after a little prodding she found out that Magic Jack was going through some upgrades in their datacenter and appologized for any inconvience. She said they will send me an email when it is complete and my service is back to normal.

I told her that Prince should be demoted!!!

I'll see when that email shows up... I of course have saved the support chat logs.. as that will do me any good!!! lol

So, I wait.. but at least I am not now lied to!!!

I think you were lied to again.
MJ voice mails come through to my Comcast email account just fine.
The only thing that would block them was if your Comcast mailbox was full. I think it's limited to 10 megabytes.

I had been receiving voicemail messages on Comcast until a few days ago. Spent 2 hours with online chat. I was told VM doesn't work with Comcast. This in spite of the fact that it clearly had been working with Comcast. No resolution after 2 hours. I was told the issue would be escalated to technical engineer and I would be contacted when the problem is solved. I am not holding my breath.

I created a G mail account, set it up to forward to my Comcast e-mail, then added the G-mail account in my MJ settings and and it as the account that should receive notification of voice mail messages. So far that's working fine. Go figure.

Chatting with MJ TnS is frustrating isn't it??????? - mostly boneheads reading garbage from their computer, in India I presume.

However, there is some potential truth to what they said, in that ANY ISP can present this problem as all have a limited amt. of storage for emails.

My TW account is something over 10MB which would be lots of long voicemail messages.

If ur computer is running (which it has to be for MJ) and ur email program is running and it is set to check mail periodically and when it does it removes the email from the server (and it works) then this should not be an issue.

If it is an issue with the above functioning then it is a MJ issue.

All is well

Got back from vacation.. and had messages showing up on my COMCAST email just like normal. So, I expect that something was going on in my part of the main server and the messages were not getting sent.

There is NO WAY Comcast could be the fault of this issue. I get larger files from other sources with no problem. Yes, I have my system check for messages about once evey 2 minutes!!

Thanks for all of you who responded...
Jim

And Prince, the MJ tech who said it was a COMCAST problem and he "spoke" for MJ, should be fired!!!! (that is if any MJ people are reading any of this!!)

I use Gmail and its awesome. The reason being is I can create a filter and have it forward the whole message / audio file to my cell phone and when I open the message on my cell it plays the voice message right away. Very nice feature.
