Phone number just says 000-000-0000 - cannot make calls.
Live chat was no help (not a surprise, I'm sure).
Dan at Magic Jack was no help.

Have you tried plugging the MJ into a different PC using a different ISP?
If it still fails the same way then there is a good chance your dongle ( ok not your's but the MJ
is bad.
How long do you have it? Did you buy it locally? If so maybe you can exchange it.
Also have you tried stopping all programs running ( other than your firewall) prior to plugging it in? Any chance you have Nero or another CD burning program installed? MJ doesn't play nice with them.
Just some thoughts off the top of my head.

It's happened many times. I've finally just issued a complaint with Florida BBB.If it still fails the same way then there is a good chance your dongle ( ok not your's but the MJis bad.

Clean boot - nothing running.
Nope.Any chance you have Nero
Windows (all versions) come standard, I believe?or another CD burning program installed?
It worked fine until today. So, sadly, no. The answer is just not that simple.MJ doesn't play nice with them.
Just some thoughts off the top of my head.

When I bought Magic Jack this was not part of the agreement.bitstopjoe wrote:I only have 1 pc and ISP as well, BUT I do have friends and family if I had to try it elsewhere.
This will tell you if the MJ itself is bad or there is something on your PC causing the issue.

Fairly rude response. Short fuse Joe? Maybe your Magic Jack performs badly. I know mine does.Give me a break ok.. I guess NOTHING you buy every goes bad or needs tweaking...

My MJ has worked flawlessly since day 1, zero complaints going on close to 2 years now. So well in fact I cancelled my landline shortly there after.
My Window comment had nothing to do with MJ, it was said in jest since you seem to expect everything to work flawlessly and there are times Windows does not.
So you had a standard agreement with the dealer when you bought your car you would never have a flat tire?? WOW great deal. Even with the best car warranty you will always find something to go wrong which the dealership will have questions about. Heck they may even want to keep it for a few days. And yes the problem may still be there after you get it back ( look at Toyota). BUT we are talking about a BIG ticket item as opposed to a $40 item.
All of us here know MJ "support' is bad, that is why this forum is a Godsend.
My comment about you and support again was tongue in cheek as the impression I got was you expect everything to work everytime without failure. In a perfect world yes, but then in a perfect world I would be taller and have all my hair
and no Obamacare...
The resaon I suggested to you to try it on another ISP and PC is to isolate the problem so we can help you. If the exact same problem follows your MJ then you know it is most likely the MJ itself which is defective and then you know what your next step(s) is.
I still stand by my suggestion to try it elsewhere, otherwise you have a pretty blue light paperweight. If you lived near me I would gladly have you come over and try it on my PC and then help you troubleshoot it.

Father Luke;
For your consideration.
I have noticed with my MJ that typically after plugging it in, the program executes, the soft phone comes up and it initially indicates 000-000-0000, until it receives my account info from my MJ's proxy (ie. contacts, call logs, 911 info, etc.). Yours apparently stalls at this initial point and cannot proceed further. Unfortunately, many things could cause this scenario.
Some possible troubleshooting items to try if you so desire;
A. I could not ascertain from reading your posts how long you had the MJ working before it failed. If recently purchased, did you receive and respond back to the confirmation email from MJ? I only ask because in my case, my spam filter redirected mine. Symptom: MJ worked fine for about 24 hours after registration, then it quit. Once I found the confirmation email and responded by clicking the link in it, all was good.
B. Are you able to log into your MJ account page and verify your account info at https://web08.magicjack.com/my/login.html ? Make sure to scroll to bottom of page, past all the advertising hubbub, and click on the grey "My Magicjack" box. Check to see that all your account info appears up to snuff and that your account is active.
C. Run "Windows Update" and make sure all of Microsoft's latest and greatest updates are applied.
D. You might try removing the MJ program then doing a clean reinstall. It is a relatively quick process, and may clear up any bottlenecks your system or router may have experienced. If you decide to give this a whirl, use the mjRemover to completely uninstall the MJ. It can be downloaded at http://upgrades.talk4free.com/tools/mjRemover.exe.
Removal/Reinstall Steps:
- Disconnect your MJ dongle
- Run "mjRemover.exe". Once this is complete and your MJ is uninstalled…
- Perform a complete system shutdown.
- Unplug your router. (Let both systems sit idle for a few minutes to clear any buffers).
- Meanwhile, check that your USB connections are solid (don't use the short cord that came with your MJ as it can cause issues). Make sure to use a USB port on the back of your computer. *
- Plug your router back in then boot up your computer
- Once your system has come up completely (wait a few minutes after you log on), then plug your MJ in and let it reinstall. You will asked to enter your user email address and account password.
* If you don't already use a powered USB hub, you might consider getting one.
I hope the suggestions above can help remedy your situation. By the way, I'm a different Dan than the one you already tried to contact

No, I didn't miss that part. I just didn't have enough of the "juicy juice" on hand last night, to take that issue on as well.
I was hopeful that since Father Luke came to this forum seeking assistance, that perhaps he might also find some extra patience and work our suggestions towards finding a solution to his situation. Yes, the troubleshooting process takes considerable time as well. However, the payoff is well worth the effort for sure.

Would be a shame a man of the cloth ( if in fact he is one, as we can only go by his handle) would in fact not have the patience to try some of the things we suggested. Just as one needs to know what to do if you turn your key and your car doesn't start. Of course I can hear the Father's response, "why son, that is why God invented AAA"

"Father Luke" is just a troll. According to his 'chat' he doesn't know the phone # of his MJ. Is his account active? He never answered joe's questions about when and where he purchased his MJ. Did he ever activate the MJ? Did he buy it on Ebay for $3 and now wants it to work? You can't believe a word he says. He should have stayed in Rants & Raves.

I try, thank you.
All I can do is make suggestions here, it is up to the person if they want to try it or not. Something about a horse comes to mind and making it drink
I really did try to help him, but was very hard to get through to him.
I hope he checks back in to say he did try a few of the suggestions posted here by me and others.
I TRY not to get personal or take things personally on here. I have had more than my share of cheap shots on here by simply telling people to do a search first. Especially when the question they are asking has been discussed to death on here. For one they will get their answer quick and for two they might learn something by reading this forum first. Heck I did. I read this forum close to a year before I bought my MJ in Aug 2008.

Joe, you no doubt set a very good example. I wonder sometimes if the people that pass through here solely because they have an issue needing resolve, that these forums are scrictly user supported and "unofficial" as this website is not paid for or even sanctioned my Ymax Communications.
Nobody knows better than I about being the butt of the cheapshot. Thanks for setting me straight on that. I try but sometimes forget the golden rule! We need more like you Joe in forums web-wide!

Well that won't be an issue any longer because in the process of Super Gluing my halo back on I stuck a bunch of fingers together.
I think we better stop as I am sure the moderator and others are rolling their eyes at this point saying WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH MJ!!
Nothing of course, but always good to have a laugh or two..
Unless for some reason they do a search for sticky keys!!

OK, i'll help get Joe out of a 'sticky' situation by bringing the thread back on topic
When i first got my MJ, i spent 6 HOURS almost with tech support trying to set the darn thing up. Nada, nothing - no joy!
I decided to try a friend's computer and voila, was up and about in 10 mins!
Came home, plugged the MJ into my computer, no problemo, still working to this day.
Only thing is, i can't log into http://my.magicjack.com to access my account - tried on my friend's computer again and was able to no problem!!??
Any idea why this would be the case - i'm behind a router btw.
It really has me stumped as to why i couldn't set up MJ nor can i access my account via the website on my computer!
TIA,

I decided to try a friend's computer and voila, was up and about in 10 mins!
Came home, plugged the MJ into my computer, no problemo, still working to this day.
Only thing is, i can't log into http://my.magicjack.com to access my account - tried on my friend's computer again and was able to no problem!!??
Any idea why this would be the case - i'm behind a router btw.
It really has me stumped as to why i couldn't set up MJ nor can i access my account via the website on my computer!
TIA,
Ray

Try the "My" link provided on the softphone just below the MJ "status area" and above "End" call link.
Here is the web address: https://web08.magicjack.com/my/login.html
Sounds like Joe is doing just fine... by himself!!!

BTW Ray, welcome to the forum!
Some routers do create their own sets of issues. There are so many variables at play here.
I am not sure you have seen this info before, if not you might save the link as a favorite as it is chock full of MJ info, tips and tricks. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack
In regards to your situation, keep in mind that once you successfully registered your MJ on your friends system, it downloaded all the current updates to your MJ and was essentially good to go. You were fortunate in getting it to work on your home system shortly thereafter. Others such as myself had even more issues to untangle once we got the silly thing to communicate with the outside world.
Hopefully the new web link provided in previous post will get you all squared away.

A trick to get into your account. On your MJ softphone click under the ad where it says "click here to order" Ignore what they are trying to sell you and just click on the gray bar below. And if you noticed no password to get into your account. Pretty cool, unless you are not the only one to use your PC.Athanasian_Creed wrote:OK, i'll help get Joe out of a 'sticky' situation by bringing the thread back on topic![]()

As for why you can not get there via the web page, I can only guess MAYBE you have it blocked in your IE options as there is a setting there to block sites. MAYBE it was added by accident.

See if that works.

Thanks for the suggestion - tried that - again, no joy! It must surely have to do with my router since i can access it on a friend's comp (sans router)Intimmy98 wrote:Try the "My" link provided on the softphone just below the MJ "status area" and above "End" call link.

Thanks Dan - you all are a wealth of knowledge - a sight for sore newbie eyes! I did alot of perusing the forum even before i took the plunge and bought the MJ.Intimmy98 wrote:BTW Ray, welcome to the forum!
Yes, thanks, in my perusing the forums previously i seen the mention of that site - will keep it in mind.Intimmy98 wrote:I am not sure you have seen this info before, if not you might save the link as a favorite as it is chock full of MJ info, tips and tricks. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack
Yes, thank God - it was no problem whatsoever after using another computer to register. Even after i recently reinstalled Win7 from scratch, no problems. I did have my doubts originally if i'd ever get it set up - i'm sure others, as you say, have had it worse than i!Intimmy98 wrote:In regards to your situation, keep in mind that once you successfully registered your MJ on your friends system, it downloaded all the current updates to your MJ and was essentially good to go. Nope - all i get is a "trying to connect to..." message. This after using not only IE, but Firefox & Opera as well. C'est la vie, i guess my friend will come in handy should i need to access my account. One thing i did while on line with tech support was have them disable auto-renew. Thank you to the person who alerted us to the policy to auto-renew!Intimmy98 wrote:Hopefully the new web link provided in previous post will get you all squared away.

See if that works.
As for the IE options, the tech had me change all sorts of things - add this, delete that, stand on your head and spit nickels, that sort of stuff. I was an exercise in futility & a test of my not so up to snuff patience!

Turned off Windows Firewall as per tech support - didn't help.Kenny2469 wrote:definately sounds like a firewall or router issue here... have you tried turning off your firewall or bypassing the router and plug your computer directly into the cable or dsl modem, just to rule those out???
I have thought of plugging directly into the computer and check the results - i haven't as of yet because all the changes i needed to make for now have been made via my friend's computer.
Thanks for the suggestion though Kenny, much appreciated!

Your a great sport for sure! Sounds to me like you have discovered you do in fact have plenty of patience, and obviously lots of nickels too!
BTW, sorry about any unintended damage to your eyes!
Which brand of router are you using and have you checked the manufacturer's website for any possible firmware updates? As Kenny2469 mentioned, bypass the router completly and see if you are able to connect normally to MJ's site?

I just wanted to get the flippin' thing workin' so i was willing to listen to any recommendations by tech support (even though i swore i knew more than they did!)
Hehe - back to normal so no real damage done!Intimmy98 wrote:BTW, sorry about any unintended damage to your eyes!
I have a cheesy, cheapo TrendNET wireless router which decided after XP & Vista Service Pack installs not to operate as a wireless so it's working OK as a wired router.Intimmy98 wrote:Which brand of router are you using and have you checked the manufacturer's website for any possible firmware updates? Firmware updates - i think there is one but to be honest, i don't want to hose the router by updating the firmware (slight chance but still possible). I run a SlingBox through the router so i need the router to work.
I'd phone to get the router issues straightened out, but to tell you the truth, i don't know which 'tech support' is worse - that of MJ or TrendNET!!

Man,. TrendNet has got to be up there in the category of worst... I had one of those routers (cuz it was cheap and hey, so am I) but the troubles out weighed my cheapness and I went out and bought a D-Link...
The best thing I ever did with the TrendNet router was to back over it with a 5 ton car hauler.... =)
