Hooking Up Magic Jack

Post by binkyboy »

Heres a hard one for you long timers. How the heck do ya hook this thing up. I have it hooked up but its not working. I have DSL and have a filter on my phone line next to the computer. Now can I plug the filter into the magic jack or just the telephone line. And if I cannot plug the filter into the magic jack what do I do with the filter? I know I sound awful stupid for asking these questions but I need help bad.

No filter needed. Just plug your phone directly into your MJ...

Also not a dumb question at all....

So I don`t need the filter I use for the phone and DSL to work? Just plug the phone into the DSL and then plug ito the USB port on the computer? What do I do with the filter I was using for DSL? Thank you very much. I really appreciate your help.

No. Plug your MJ into your USB port ( in the rear if possible and without the extension cord they gave you). THEN plug your phone into the MJ. That's it. The ONLY part your DSL plays from now on is giving you an internet connection to your PC which then allows you to use the phone connected to your MJ... If you still have a landline then that will work as it did before using the other phones in your home. Your MJ will give you a NEW phone #... Understand? If you decide to get rid of your landline ( I did) you first need to see if your ISP can give your dry loop or "naked" DSL. This will give you an internet connection but your old, NON MJ phone line and # is gone. Just remember you need your PC on for you to make and get calls. When your PC is powered off your calls will go to voice mail or you can forward your MJ# to your cell when your PC is off ( or to your landline if you still have one, just remember to take that off when you want to get calls on your MJ again).
Feel free to ask anything else you need to know. You may also want to do a search on youtube for MagicJack as there are some video tutorials for you to watch and learn from.
