HEAD SET QUESTION

Post by b1rd »

I just purchased a Logitech head set to use along with MagicJack, however I'm having a problem setting it up.

I have the two plugs inserted into the indicated ports and i believe I have it set up correctly, however nothing can be heard. When I checked the Volume/Headset Control option, I noticed it was configured to use a telephone. When i tried to click the Headset/Other option, it will not activate. It just stays grayed out.

I did try unplugging MJ for a bit, as well as removed the phone line from the Dongle as well, but same results.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Try restarting MJ with the headset plugged in - pull MJ out, count to 30, then plug it back in. Then see if you can switch to headset.

Hi and thanks.

I actually already packaged up the headset for return, however i did test that using just a mic. I'm assuming that would work, with the caller hearing me via the mic, and I hear them through my speakers.

Anyhow, no, unfortunately it did not activate the Headset/Other option.

My main purpose for the headset was to improve the sound quality, as i get so many complaints. Often I have to call back on another phone.

If the other party hears me as i do when I use the MJ test number (909-390-0003), then I'm in big trouble.

Does using a headset help with this? I also set the processes priority to high, as I read that might help too, as well as installed some third party program that claims to reduce th echo effect.

Also, I have MJ set up on an older computer WinXP P-4 1.6 GHz 512 ram, (My spar tower that i really only use for MJ, as i run several systems at once.)

Try going to Control Panel selecting Sounds and Audio Devices.
Click on the Voice Tab and make sure your headset is selected there.

Then return to MJ and try selecting it.

Instead of using a headset with 2 stereo jacks on it, try a USB one.

I checked, but I was unable to find anything that indicated head set . I checked both of my systems as well as all of the tabs, including advanced. Again, I'm running WinXP Home, if that makes a difference.

Also, the tower that MJ is connected to does not have any speakers connected. It's only the OS, some anti-virus and a firewall. Pretty bare bones as, i use a KVM switch, and really only have that older one for MJ (and for my girlfriend to check her email)

If the headset will not improve the quality the other person hears, then I'm not concerned.

Can anybody confirm if it does in fact improve the sound quality, as that's the main reason. And if so, by how much?

I have not contacted the MJ support, as from past experience, that's just a waste. Also, I have one of the older MJ units.

Thanks to those who responded with the suggestions.

What your looking for is that the "Voice" is set up use the jacks your plugging your headset into.
