Anyway to make magicJack start faster?

Post by laserjobs »

It takes several minutes for magicJack to start, does anyone have any hints on how to speed up the start-up process?

I "assume" you removed the splash screen for the startup??
If so and it is still slow, it sounds to me you may have a lot other crap loading at startup which is causing the MJ to wait in line to load.

Mike Lin's Start Up Control panel is an EXCELLENT piece of freeware to see and stop programs from loading during startup. Here is the link http://www.mlin.net/

If you don't care about the softphone, running as a Windows service and setting that service to start automatically seems to get you to have that working mj dialtone pretty fast.

Something is obviously wrong when he says it takes SEVERAL minutes to load the MJ when at most 30-45 secs tops, IF THAT.
So its more than him being in a rush, something is wrong in his start up...........

Yeah the MJ is a total dog at start-up. My CPU runs at close to 100% for a minute twice as it is starting up. Once with the magicjack is now starting process bar and the other while it is waiting to register and pull the IE screens.

Even when I restart MJ from the MJ command menu it takes 2 minutes to start.

Do you use any "select destination proxy" hack? This will cause the start up delay, or it should load within seconds.

How do you remove the splash screen?

NO SPLASH
Install Startup Control Panel then run the application.
You can find the link in the control panel, it will be called Startup.
I had to switch to classic view to find it.

After starting the program click on the HKCU / Run tab.
You need to uncheck cdloader which is what normally starts magicjack.
Next click on the HKLM / Run tab.
Right click anywhere in the box and select "New".
On the line for Program name you can type what you like.
I typed "Magicjack Quick Start" on mine.
On the line for the programs pathcut and paste the following:

"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "I:\magicJack"

Use everything including the quotes.
My magicjack's drive was letter I. If yours is different then change the "I" in the path to what ever your drive letter is.
If you don't know which drive is correct drive, right click on the drive and click explore. It will be the drive with the file that is named "do not use this drive". Then click OK.
Make sure you have a check in the box in front of the key you just created then click the "x" on the top right corner to close the program.

THATS IT!!!!!!
Reboot and see if it works for you.....
I'm using Windows XP. If you are using Vista then I believe the path will be slightly different. Do a search in the forum and you will find the correct path.
Enjoy the quicker startup.
