Since yesterday or today I've noticed that even though I can add new contacts into MagicJack, they are no longer seen in the contact list after restarting MJ. I've never had this problem before and before yesterday I was able to add contacts which persisted through restarts.
Has anyone else seen this phenomenon?
I'm wondering if maybe there is a limit to the number of contacts one can save? I believe I have around 95 right now after doing a quick count.
new contacts won't persist after restart

Easy to figure out if there is a limit. Delete 2 or 3 contacts and then try adding 2 or 3 more NEW ones. See if they come back. IF YES, then yes there is a limit. If no, then it might be time to contact MJ online chat, MAYBE their server which stores OUR contacts is down or having problems.

I just added a TEST phone # in my contacts, restarted and it was still there.. Possibly we are on different servers where our contacts are stored. Seems like your best bet now is to contact support.
Of course you take a drastic action by getting the MJ removal tool from their site, remove all of your MJ software and have it all reinstall. I have no idea of ALL of your contacts will be restored after that, though they "should".

Thanks for the info Joe.
The only thing I can think of that changed was that I plugged my MJ into another instance of Windows 7 I installed yesterday on my PC. I got the "Lucky You" update but it appeared to function normally. I was assuming this update made changes to the software on the PC and not the MJ device, but perhaps it made a change on the device which is causing the contact saving problem.
I have not gotten any recent "Lucky You" updates on my main Windows 7 instance in the last several weeks.
I will wait a couple of days and then contact support if the problem doesn't resolve itself by then.

In 30 plus years of troubleshoot I have found 9 out of 10 times when things that worked no longer do it is the last thing you did which was the culprit. Be it video drivers, audio drivers, a Windows update, etc.. This is why I make an image of my C: drive everytime I am doing something new or installing a new program. If it doesnt work, or it is causing problems I just restore said image. Heck I dont even uninstall software anymore. I make an image, install the software and if I don't like it, I just restore the image. Neat and clean and nothing left behind.
This even goes for putting in a new OS. When I went from 2000 to Xp I did just that. I must have restored 2000 a dozen times before I was happy with XP. Not sure how you can go back to the Win 7 you had prior to your contact problems though. You could always try to re run the Win 7 update manually and see if that helps.

I was able to get it working after running update.exe while MJ was shutdown though still connected and that fixed the problem. When I tried running update.exe previously I had MJ running, but that appears to not be the way to upgrade.
Incidentally, I did chat with MJ customer service and they told me that 100 contacts are the maximum and that once one reaches that limit, the oldest contact will be removed, etc... I asked them to consider allowing many more contacts as well as providing a way to export the contact list to a text file.
Good advice re: making backups Joe. I actually do that as well, but I really wanted to avoid having to do a full restore if at all possible. Glad it worked this time around
Thanks for your input!
