Help Choosing MJ Proxy

Post by kosodo »

Hi, I heard that if I choose a proxy closer to me. I will get better quality but was wondering if what is considered by "closer". If I'm in Toronto, Canada and register my MJ number in California (408 area code), would Sanfrancisco proxy is considered closer to me (closer to my number) or New York proxy is considered closer (closer to the location I live in)? Thanks in advance!

It's your physical location not the proxy your MJ is set for. Usually the closer you are to the server the better quality you will have. If you are using MJ with an ata it's an easy thing to do. If your using MJ with the dongle you will have to block all the servers you do not want to use http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack/ ... oxy_Change

It's not necessary how physically how close you are but how the calls are routed. Do a trace route and find the proxy that gives you the best results (hops, pings, etc.)

I live in Toronto and use Bell (Sympatico) I found that it didn't matter what proxy I would trace they all seemed to route through Chicago (It seemed all of Sympatico's U.S. traffic went through Chicago). So I selected Chicago because it was the closest cyber location.

Of note - I haven't done this in a while but it used to be that your proxy was based on the area code you first requested when you registered your MJ. Even if you changed area codes you would still be routed through your original proxy.

What I did was buy a new MJ and register it to a Chicago number and then used my one free number change and moved my phone number to a L.A. area code. My L.A. calls are routed through Chicago.
