Not for anything I do not recall the commercial saying one word about faxing. .PLUS on their web page they say:
" We do not officially support using faxing with magicJack.
Please try the following steps to use magicJack with your fax (contact your fax manufacturer for details):
Turn off error correction on your fax machine or program
Set the fax machine or program to use the slowest speed available
Increase the speed, checking at each speed that faxes work"

Plus ever since their last update faxing has become more miss than hit. So not sure how you can sue when they state it is NOT officially supported, but hey go for it... I mean OJ got off right??

Faxing, class action, then wait & wait & wait......

Post by V-Man »

Hers'a a faster idea. Buy a magicJack AND a TK6K and enjoy the best of both worlds. Reliable voice com and ability to fax. THEN fire your phone company. :D I just heard that the 2007 class action against Samsung for one of their DLP TV's failed parts (a VERY long story....I'll spare ya'll the details) was only decided in April of THIS year. Hell, by the time the class action against MJ gets in front of judge, MJ and NT could be evaporated corporations. Besides, who wants to wait that long?

I agree with Joe. I think MJ has covered their collective a$$e$ by their "We do not officially support using faxing with magicJack." statement on their website.

But again, even before OJ got off, Cullen Davis got away with murder AND attempted murder here in Fort Worth.....ya NEVER know.

joe,

your missing the point of "FIRE Your Phone Company" ...

When I was paying for the "phone company" I did nothing special to send a fax (as you suggest for mj) ... and I sent faxes from all type fax machines without a hitch ...

mel does not need to specify that when saying "FIRE Your Phone Company" ...

the "phone company" delivers faxing ... mj does not (now) ...

so my thread title is correct ...

I see your point but they never specify faxing.. I think that is their way out.
My mom has her phone now in a cable package. She is NOT able to fax either.

So I guess unless you are with "MA BELL" faxing is not an option....

that is weird ...

I never ran into that situation with cable or dsl ...

I'd jump on the cable company ...

or did you already?

would want to know what they say ...

They would probably explain that their phone service is routed through the internet (VoIP) and that no voice over internet protocol company officially supports faxing. Common sense.

Exactly.. In oder to give the rate package they give, their phone is VOIP, therefore faxing is ify...

Faxing and stuff

Um, I see your point Connie that Mel might ought to bracket his "Fire your phone company" comment. However, I suspect that the majority of people that this commercial is targeting is NOT heavily populated with FAX machine owners. Without being too cynical, ya gotta remember the overwhelming majority of the US population have only two digit IQs, hence the ability to use a fax machine in the first place is probably limited to a minority of MJ users.

I ALSO suspect the the overwhelming majority of people on most technical forums are WELL above the 3 digit IQ mark. This one is no different. Most of if not ALL of the regular posters on this forum are very educated and naturally intelligent (The 100k ohm resistor fix comes to mind). While it is frustrating for the gifted few to deal daily with the general public and all the not so gifted (as well as the lethargic, the "entitled" etc etc etc) it is a minor burden we all must find a way to deal with.

PLUS, if any of the two digit IQs DO have a fax machine, they can get a TK6000....cuz it DOES support faxing. It says so right in NetTalk's FAQs.

Yeah, yeah. I know. I'll say it for you.

"V-Man!! ENOUGH already about the frickin' TK6000."

ok. i'll shut up now.

I do get what everyone is saying ... the phone was invented for talking ... faxing is a by product ...

anyway I got a question that I will address in a new thread:

What's common sence? That the cable company is not the phone company?

I guess it depends on how much the ability to fax is worth to a person, to determine whether the cost is worthwhile.
Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:

-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)

Shaken, not stirred.

Google Voice is the chaser.

Here you go. And you get your documents organized. If you e-mail editable files, your counterparts can make necessary changes and send it back. With faxing, the problem was that after a few times faxing back and forth nobody could read the text.
Faxing is outdated. :)
