Password recovery, and I don't mean the SIP one

I found a Magicjack at the swap meet, it was returned at retail. It was then sold as surplus to a swap meet seller of returned consumer goods.

Apparently it was never canceled, it has a phone number and an address associated with it. I have both of those as well as the name of the previous owner. When I first got it I could make phone calls. They have since increased their security and want the pw to do anything at all. I notice they also have prevented browsing of the magicjack drive, or at least after the driver loads.

What I don't have is the account PW so I can change the number and administrate the account, or even to renew it when it runs out.

Is there a place to get those, are they maybe stored somewhere in the Magicjack? Magicjack wouldn't help, since they don't know who I am, not much surprise there.

So, is there a trick to retrieve the pw from the unit itself, or from anywhere?

Try this:

1. click on the link "My" on the softphone (just below "Ready to Call"). You'll be taken to the login screen.
2. click on "Remind me by Email" (below Password) and another window opens up. Enter your email address only. Don't enter the phone number, as MJ will email the previous owner. Then click "Next".

I got no email. I presume it went to the previous owner.

So, I guess it's essentially impossible to re use a "used" magicjack that you neither have the pw for nor have access to the email address that it's registered to?

-Use sipdump as described elsewhere to save dump files

-next i strongly suggest you download and install notepad++

-open a dump file with notepad++ and search for:

CustomField0
When I checked my own dump file, I consistently found my account email address next to this one. It was also next to the others listed below but mostly this entry.
