Update to my previous post:

My CC statement came last week, and MJ charged me $69.95/ 5 yrs extension for Canadian number account when I bought and activated a new device last month. I still have another MJ with US phone# and will change it to Canadian# soon.
About MJ now offers changing US# to Canadian#, its great news. I guess MJ will get even more power in Canadian telephony market for this, along with Canadian# option when registering new device. I myseft have recommended 5 of my friends to try MJ since last month and they're all happy. MJ is now more usable for Canadians for what Dan has done so far. How about BYOD options in the future for people who love to play with ATAs? that would be sweet...

it is GREAT isn't it, and I've recommended MJ as well to my friends and family. The only thing preventing us Canadians now from using MJ as our ONLY land line is the NON 911 service :( hope they can fix that too soon!

Yeah thats my hope too! But in the meantime you still use your old/out off service cellphones laying around your house to call 911 when needed ( please correct my if Im wrong as I have no chance to test 911 service with my unused cellphone )

I considered getting the MagicJack but when I looked into it more and came across this forum I discovered that there were problems for Canadians regarding phone numbers, so I decided not to bother. The idea seems really good in principle but without the necessary support yet it's something I have to pass on. I just use a cheap internet fax service for a lot of my communications. So far so good in that department.

911 will not work from Brampton > Ontario > Canada-usi

Post by vivah »

I bought it from Bestbuy 50$, came home and activated it , 10$ for Canadian # 289-xxx-xxxx ( I am from Brampton, Ontario) and I paid additional 70$ for 5 Years.
working fine, its way cheaper than lan line,
911 not working, disabled ( I hope they can enable this soon )
some Toll free # are not going through.
other than that, its solid good.
