Calls keep dropping after about 3 min
Hey all,
Been using MJ for about two years and seen all sorts of funky things happen. A new one that has cropped up is all my calls keep dropping after about 3 min.
Doesn't matter what number is called,
Doesn't matter if it is incoming or outgoing.
doesn't matter what time of day.
I have five computers at home and the same thing happens with them all both wired and wireless.
The odd thing I've noticed is the call shows as being still connected until I hang up.
The computer all computers have plenty of RAM and the puter that typically is dedicated to MJ is never used for anything else so system resourced are at a max and it is auto rebooted every week because of the nature of Windows not dropping dlls.
The number I have is an Oakville Ontario number. I grabbed a Canadian number about four months ago as soon as they were available from MJ.
My MJ calling patterns would be deemed to be far below average.
1. Is anyone else experiencing persistent drop calls within the last four months.
2. Could MJ be limiting calls to conserve Bandwidth.
3. Could there be an issue between MJ and the Canadian number carrier?
If this can't be resolved I'll be dropping MJ because a three min call is useless. I still have three years service left too.
Cheers,
ZaP

Yes
Yes firmware is updated.
decided to buy a new router just to see if it could be the issue but same thing. Also tried bypassing the router and going direct with computer. Same thing.
It's not the firewall either. If it was the call couldn't be made to begin with.
After call drops packets are still being sent till I hang up or wait for about 2 min when packets end.

no power saving settings here.........BUT, just TONIGHT, my calls are all dropping within 3 minutes as well, and my caller got MUSIC on the other end!!!...VERY ANNOYING!!!! I checked my QOS details, and I'm now going thru Tampa instead of Dallas, so I think that is the problem. I've been away for 2 weeks, so no idea when the server change happened...I've ALWAYS been thru Dallas till now. If this keeps up, another call to MJ will be in order I guess

Yes
Yes, my USB and Ethernets don't powerdown.
two laptops and three PC.
Even tried it on two old PC's that have been collecting dust for 5 years and still the same thing happens.
So far,
Tested on seven computers
Two routers
Three different networks and ISPs
All the same result.
I've also noticed that MJ seems to be having issues with Rogers VOIP phone numbers. or it could be Rogers.
I was at a clients place (Rogers VOIP service) tried calling the phone next to me and it would only go to voice mail yet I could call my cell phone without any issue till the call dropped.
This MJ is two years old already. Could it be a hardware issue with the device itself?
Possibly a CAP dying? (Unlikely)
My gut feeling is that it is a routing issue with Canadian numbers (unintended)
Or
It's a deliberate attempt to limit YMAX costs due to the increased costs associated with Canadian numbers.

something really strange going on tonight...I'm refreshing my QOS details frequently, and I'm getting different servers all over the place...just had 4 different ones ALL AT ONCE!!!! and now I've got one named web04.talk4free.com (not city)...they must be experimenting or something with new servers I guess...time will tell.
Zaphon: have you tried using another phone system? just a thought

That is really strange
how are you checking your MJ routing?
Yesterday I called my wife repeatedly and it would only go to voice mail. I picked her up and had her phone with me. I walked in the house and my MJ all of a sudden was calling me on her phone about 15 min later.
I answered it and it was me. I picked up my MJ line and sure enough. I could talk to myself.

Yes I tried other systems
Yes I've tried different phones and just headsets. All the same.
Haven't tried another soft phone though.

with Tomato firmware, there's a QOS section, and you can view details there (perhaps your router has the same if set up), and man mine are all over the place tonight (now web3.talk4free.com), as well as alot of pop.whatevers.com sites showing up tonight, but not sure that's connected to this problem, but still searching....
have you tried the test #909-390-0003 and see how long that lasts....just to test and see
I'm doing it now, 6 minutes and counting, and no drop, but my server is also back with Dallas with this call, so...........
also, not sure if it's part of the problem tonight, but my wife is on the landline too all night
with her sister who phoned the MJ number which is call forwarded to the landline, while I'm talking out on the MJ phone...interesting!!!!!

UPDATE
Ok here is what is happening.
When call goes dead the connection stays active. When I press link to put the call on hold I can hear music starting on my cell phone. When I press link/flash again the music stops as if the call resumes but there is no sound. call is dead but on hold music works

sorry, but I see no link or any way to put my calls on hold using the MJ softphone GUI...do you have a newer version, or am I misreading your post?
Also, I have my set for "Aircard", not "highspeed"...actually it sets it up that way for some reason, but it works! I made another call tonight to my daughter in Kansas, and talked to her on her cell for over 10 minutes trouble free...but I do find I have more trouble calling CDN numbers than USA ones.
