Computer restart - auto updates

Post by YipMan_Style »

I'm still new to MJ. I have a dedicated PC running MJ so I don't use it much.

When there is a Windows update (or other updates), the computer sometimes restarts - without me knowing. And therefore my MJ is stuck and not working. I won't know until someone said "Hey...your phone is not working."

The answer is - turn off all automatic updates. But on my PC, there are so many programs that do update, itunes, adobe, antivirus, etc, etc.

What do you guys do?

I run MagicJack as a Windows service. The service is started with Windows so MJ works even if a user isn't logged in.

I wrote a tool to set up the service. You can download it at www.evanvaughan.com/magicjack.aspx

If your PC is essentially dedicated to your MJ, and you say you don't use it much, then you don't need to run so many updates. A lot of MJ users will strip their dedicated PCs of all unnecessary software (plus turning off the firewall) so there is as little activity as possible sapping CPU/memory resources.

I setup the free teamviewer application and login remotely once a day. It works nicely.
