"Device not properly ejected" msg

Post by janalenae »

Sometimes I will think our phone is on, then go to use it and discover it isn't. Then I unplug the magic jack and plug it back in to re-start it. When I did this the other day, I did not see the icon in our dock (we have a mac) so I just unplugged it from computer and plugged it back in. Now when the original box comes up, I double click the icon and then the magic jack image is displayed in the middle of the screen saying something about a minute of patience for a lifetime of savings... Then a message pops up that the device was not properly ejected and may be damaged. The magic jack never boots but seems to be in an endless cycle, just sending me back to the box that says to double click icon.
Have I completely broke the thing??? I'm without phone service now. Ugh.

In the future, if you want to restart the MJ software, simply use the menus of the soft-phone to select the "restart" option. It's in the "Advanced User" submenu.

To get yours working again you can try the following:

Method A:

1) Shut down the computer
2) Unplug the MJ
3) Restart the computer
4) Once fully booted, plug the MJ back in

If that doesn't work...

Method B:

1) Restart the computer with the MJ device UNPLUGGED
2) Search the following site for "uninstall" to download and run the official MJ uninstall utility: http://www.magicjack.com/5/faq/
3) After running the utility, reboot your computer.
4) Once fully booted, plug the MJ back in

If that still doesn't work...

1) Try the MJ on a different computer to determine if the MJ is defective, or your computer has corrupted files. If the MJ works, you know your computer needs some OS repair.

2) If you bought your MJ from magicjack.com, you can try contacting their chat support for a replacement

3) If you bought MJ from another retailer, and you are within the vendor's return/exchange window, you can get a replacement.

BIG NOTICE FOR OPTIONS 2 and 3****

If you get a replacement MJ, be SURE to contact MJ chat support BEFORE plugging in the new MJ, so your account/phone number can be transferred to the new MJ. We are told that if you instead plug in the new MJ before contacting chat support they will NOT be able to xfer your account.

Good luck.
Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:

-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)

Shaken, not stirred.

Google Voice is the chaser.

I have the same problem. But when I typed in the command "chmod+x CompleteUninstall.sh" in Terminal, it did not recognize the command.

I managed to do an Uninstall by copying the remove commands from the recommended MJ CompleteUninstall.sh file and applying them in Terminal.

Then I did a Safe Boot with MJ unplugged.

Re-plugged the MJ.

Got the "Start MJ" and data was downloaded, but MJ still will not start up. It tries to start up, but then quits.

Problem persists.
