Backing up Contacts

Post by kgash »

I just got the Contacts list is empty message today. This is the second or third time this has happened since MJ changed the way contacts are stored; I expect it will continue to happen as time goes on.

Is there any way to make a backup of the Contact list (assuming it does come back) so I at least have the numbers available? Luckily, I had a copy of AddressBook.xml from the previous iteration of MJ and have most of my numbers. I had my backup program automatically back up that file each night. I would like to do the same for the current Contacts list.
Thanks,

Since around March of this yr all of our contacts have been saved on MJ's servers and not on our PC's. So what was the point of backing up the AddressBook.xml file since it has not been updated since about March. You would have been better off putting that file on a floppy or thumb drive as opposed to backing up a file that has not changed since March. Just my opinion.

I know the people who make MagicFeatures ARE coming out with a program to do exacly what you want, back up your contacts.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that MJ folks are going to give us the ability to back up our contacts.
BTW, I didn't mean that I kept backing up the same file. As long as the xml file was created locally on my PC, I backed it up and when MJ changed, the backups stopped.

Ok got ya as it didnt make sense to me to back up a file nightly that never changed :)
Also it is not the MJ people coming out with a contact backup program, but the people who make MagicFeatures. Send a PM to redpepper as I am sure he can explain it to you and what it entails.

IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT CONTACT LIST

We are pleased to announce that magicJack customers have now received our latest magicJack upgrade. This upgrade includes the following benefits:

Less bugs
Superior call quality
Works on Windows and Mac
Easy to use
and much more

There may be some magicJack users that will no longer have their past contact list available. Please create a new contact list. Our latest upgrade, with advanced features should prevent this from ever happening again. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Agents will not be able to restore contact list.

Well! Coming from the "horses" mouth!!!!!

After reading these posts, I have determined that I do NOT have the upgrade yet. I recreated my contacts list with the numbers that I had copies of and the list actually survived a restart of MJ.

Is there a way of getting the upgrade myself or should I wait until I get "Lucky"?

'I just got the Contacts list is empty message today"

Yeah, both the contact and call list. Lost one important number, the rest is stored in my cell phone. "Favorites" were not deleted.
Typical.
