So if you have already gotten the recent August update, you may notice that your mJ shows Unregistered at the bottom of the "menu button" menu.
There have been a couple of ideas floated on what this means, but it's actually very simple.
If you "log out" of your mJ from the menu, a registration screen should appear. You can see the serial number of your mJ in a field marked "magicJack Name" above the area where you enter your email address and password. Next to it is a button to "edit". Click "edit", and after a slight delay, you'll be able to change the serial number of your mJ to a name of your choosing. "Kids", "Home", "Home Office", whatever you'd like to refer to that particular mJ, you can. Then, enter your username and password, and your device is now registered with this new name.
Look back in your menu menu, and you'll see the name you've given your device. Your serial number and the version of mJ software is still listed above the new name you've given your device.
This is useful back on the my.magicjack.com pages, too. Log into m y.magicjack.com, and click the "My Subscriptions" tab. If you have more than one, you can select your subscription. You can select by the names you've given to your devices, or select by serial number, if you haven't already assigned a name.
Once you've chosen a "subscription", you can go down below to the "The Name Of This Device is:" and there is a button to change the name.
You'll have to restart the mJ software on your computer to see the name change in the menu menu on your computer if you change the device name while at my.magicjack.com.
